crawe1x
I'm not clued up on what the furore was with the first attempt at paid mods; whether it was people uploading mods that weren't their creation, or other things? I wasn't active on the Nexus at the time, but I believe it came quite late in the Skyrim modding cycle. The impression I've always had, and I could be wrong, was that it was the mod users rather than the mod authors who were up in arms. Basically, people didn't want to pay for mods, which they considered a free service. It also sounds like Beth handled the situation very poorly, just as they did with the release of their new mod site earlier this year. But I really don't know the ins and outs of what went down at the time. Edit: Ethreon beat me to it. But yeah, what he says sounds about right. Lynna
So, I had put into the mod requests forum that I was looking for snapping carpets because Frippy too their carpets down, and damanding saw it (it may have sparked this conversation). Last week, I rage uninstalled all of my mods, and my game and saves because of an insidious CTD I could not ferret out. I reinstalled, and began to reinstall all my mods with fresh downloads and installs from Nexus, only to find that the carpets weren't there. I cried. I then noticed that Don't Call Me Settler was gone (the mod author says that they will put it back up when fixed). It has really made this playthrough not as fun and immersive. I ended up with a backup of DCMS but it's behind a couple of revs (I have 1.56). Hearing that a bunch of mod authors are pulling down their mods right now, I am going to start downloading everything I can get my hands on, not to upload elsewhere, but because my feeling of security is now shot. For some reason I always figured they would be here for a new download, and now I know that they won't be. The mod authors have absolutely no responsibility to keep a mod available forever just for us, and can take their mods down for whatever reason they want. The terrible people who are stealing mods and uploading them to Bethesda are ruining things for all of us, and it makes me both angry and sad at the same time. Well, I'm off to start downloading. edit - as I'm downloading I realized that if any of these mods have some specific installation information, I'll never know what it is in the future if the mod author removes the mod. Sad again.

Sad again.Yes it was your thread that made me start this one. As for the install information, it might be wise to copy any important install or uninstall information into a text file with the mod name and just keep them together. aesfocus
a lot of the more detailed install directions will be included in a read me, BUT you could also make yourself a little text document read me with directions and move it into the file. I will also advise keeping backups. Nearly every single Mass Effect and Dragon Age mod I ever used was up on the BSN forums, then bioware decided to slowly shut the forums down. luckily I'd saved the mods over multiple computers and moves, but that was an official place for mods and the company shut it down. I will also say that eventually I will have some of the carpets in renovated decorations snapping to each other, doesn't make sense for all, but even for myself I like having some carpeted rooms. I adored friffy's textures and tried to ensure none of mine were too close to hers so unfortunately for the most part it'll just kinda be ehh but I will put making a modders resource of snapping rugs, carpets, curtains on my list of things to do. Lynna
Now Snap'n Build is gone. I just went to make my backup of that and it wasn't there. Has anyone found out if there is some major upheaval going on right now within the modding community?

It was neat, it allowed you to purchase property, add vendors, collect income, etc. i looked up sparrowprince profile says has been banned
damanding
Sparrowprince requested their own account be closed, it wasn't a banning. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/5181555-sparrowprince-account-closed/
