ragincajuntsw
So I've never done a mod. I probably wouldn't know the creation kit if it bit me on the butt. So I saw the stickied "tutorials" thread and glanced at it but all the titles were Greek to me. Is there a "Dummies" place to start to figure out how to go about making a mod from square one for someone that has never touched a mod creator/creation kit? NexusComa
I think building a player home is a very good way to start out ... many tutorials online
cumbrianlad
You could try the tutorials that the CK help menu takes you to. I've found them useful but they sometimes assume that you know the simplest stuff...which I didn't. Also the methods that they teach, whilst being valid, sometimes aren't the easiest or quickest way to go. Having said that, without them I'd have been hopelessly lost. I started a few weeks ago and while I'm not exactly flying, I'm definitely finding my way around it...and I'd never had experience of 3d modelling software before. I've had help from the internet (written pages and video tutorials) and members of this site along the way. If you're really stuck with something ask about it. Since I've had more help so far here than I've been able to give back, I for one would be only to happy to help you with stuff that I've learned. It's been a hard slog for me, but the rewards are pretty fine. Yesterday I loaded my master save for my mod and my Redguard walked up to my tomb entrance for the first time. I was delighted when the music played and the name of my tomb came up on screen. It was pretty cool loading the map and seeing it there amongst all the vanilla Skyrim stuff that I'd discovered. If I can do it, so can you. It just takes a bit of patience and determination.
Enteum
Definitely check out the CK official site. Also Bethesda Game Studios on YouTube have the same set of tuts in video form :) I've just started too and my first dungeon is already laid out and cluttered. I find the library of assets a pain to find stuff. I guess it's just getting to know where things are. Do the very first tuts and follow them. But I'd recommend going off on your own tangent to build something unique rather than Lokirs Tomb. Be careful though...I overlaid for work by 3 hours yesterday because my time with the CK quickly turned into the early hours of the morning :/

cumbrianlad
Enteum makes a good point. Don't create Lokir's Tomb like everyone else. Make your own tomb, your own layout. That way you'll feel more pride and a sense of achievement. Use the tutorials and stuff for the methods but make it your own.
NexusComa
Little hint that will serve you well .. always set your grind to 16, 32, 64 exc ...Then when you place your 1st object (a room or floor) make sure grid mode is on.You can turn it off after that. having you main room object on grid helps outwhen moving things or adding more rooms. Later when you do room boundsyou will be thankful your on grind.
