Syco21
I work as an overnight cashier at Wal-Mart and we regularly get crazy coupon ladies. I hate them, not the customer, but rather their damned coupons. At night, we are over worked and ridiculously understaffed. Managers don't care that we're understaffed and overworked. All they care about is that things get done. This is never more obvious than when they pull several of our cashiers to work other departments. That is simply unacceptable. As if it weren't bad enough that we don't have enough people to do what needs to be done, they pull what little we do have. Crap doesn't stop there though, they then pile extra work on top of us. Work we shouldn't even be doing because it's some other department's job. My store is one of the worst to work for in the company. That's not an exaggeration either. We're actually ranked pretty high for turnover and low employee morale. I have only been working there for about 14 months and in that time span we have gone through atleast 3 different store managers. It's hard to keep track. The only way they could get someone to willing transfer here as a store manager was to bribe them with an extra $20,000 bonus. Now, back to the topic at hand. The thing I don't like about the coupon ladies is the extraordinary amount of time that is consumed by them.It can take 30 minutes to an hour, just for one customer. And that's if you don't have to wait for a CSM to approve of the transaction. Which can easily add another 15 minutes or more to the time it takes. If the CSM is at lunch, well god help you because the managers sure as hell wont. This wouldn't be much of an issue if it wasn't for that fact that these customers will get you chewed out by one of the CSMs and most of the managers. Despite you getting chewed out, possibly fired if you were to refuse them service. A typical night with a couponer goes like this. 1. You spend an hour dealing with one customer and another waiting on managers to get off their useless asses and do their damned job.2. You get chewed out by a manager/supervisor because the transaction took too long.3. You bust your ass to finish all of your work in time, only to fail.4. You get chewed out and threatened to be fired for failing to get all of your tasks done in the arbitrary time limits. /rant Moral of story: No matter how desperate you are, don't work for Wal-Mart, it's not worth it. Illiad86
Yeah, Wally is non-union, wouldn't want their employees to have the right to complain would they? I never shop there. I used to because it was cheaper than most places, but I learned my lesson there. Nearly every item of clothing I have bought there has fallen to shreds, any other utensils or small appliances break within months. We used to go there later at night because of the crowds. Always, every time, there would be ONE cashier working and a line a mile long. It was always the "slow" cashier too. She would scan things all slow and want to chat. What's great is you see two employees just standing there twiddling their thumbs...oh no we cant open another register, lets let everyone suffer and wait an hour to checkout with 4 things. Newbs... I hate Wal-Mart, I'll never shop there again, I don't care how cheap it is :P

Syco21
At our store, the one that is fastest at sorting the returns is normally the one placed as the main cashier. She's a *censored*. I can't stand her. We used to get along great, then she came to nights and we got into an argument. I was annoyed so I got snippity with her as I tend to do with everyone from time to time. How dare I have the nerve to talk to the princess like that! Bad, Syco, bad bad! Ever since then she has held a grudge against me and has been nothing but rude and confrontational. Can't stand people that think they're a pretty little princess and demand to be treated like royalty at all times. She ain't even pretty. She's looks like Quasimodo vomited up a walking, talking tumor. And her voice. Oh dear god. I have excellent hearing. But because of blockage in my ears, I can't really hear low pitched sounds very well. My ears try to compensate for this by being more sensitive. Doesn't work, however it means that high pitched sounds are piercing. That's how my ear doctor described it anyway. Her voice is high pitched, obnoxious already and she yells... A lot. So she has a tendency to give me a headache as it is. Whenever she is not the main cashier, she will only get on a register to help out lines if she is told by a supervisor. When she does go to help, rather than walking up to the cashiers in line and politely offering to take them to another register, she goes straight to the register looks forward and starts yelling "I can help someone over here." In her whiny, high pitched voice. Because she doesn't try to let any of the customers know that she is opening her register for them, they just stand there. So she keeps yelling, and yelling, and yelling. She needs to be fired. Her customer service record is appalling. She is a thorn in the side of the supervisors. She does not work well as a team. I refuse to work with her. All she does all day is whine. She'll probably get fired soon, but who knows. Since I put my two weeks in, the supers are really hesitant to have her fired because they will be even worse off as the managers refuse to hire new cashiers. They say we're overstaffed. Yeah ok. We'll see how that goes. I'm quitting, one of the supervisors will be leaving soon enough. Another of the cashiers will probably go to days now. They're going to end up in a bad situation. I was the only one that could handle some of the customers. The one that everybody looked to for guidance in the absence of the supervisors and the one relied on for help with the registers. Then you have the chores. There are some fairly important tasks that only two of the cashiers really know how to get done quickly and right the first time. The first is myself and the second is the cashier going to days. It'll be nice to watch them struggle in our absence. They'll never admit just how much value we brought to the team. But we'll know and that's what will count.
