Vagrant0
And this is why I make every effort to never use coupons in the first place and try not to be that a**hole who decides to come in at the last minute and take forever. Used to work for Blockbuster video when I was in highschool. It wasn't uncommon for someone to come in at 10 minutes till closing, wander around the store for 30-40 minutes, ask if we just got back some new release, then wander around another 20 minutes before picking something. The whole time being totally oblivious of the time or the fact that they were the only customer in the place. And of course we can't ask them to hurry up and have to sit on our hands waiting on them so we can go home. So yep, many long, painful nights. But most of retail is like that, one pain in the ass or another. Either you make the best of it or you're unemployed. Union jobs aren't much better though, you still have the same jerks running things, only now you're paying them $10-30 out of every other paycheck. Syco21
What do you think about this encounter. I was left off the schedule for an entire week. They discovered this err two weeks after the schedule was published and my last working day before the week off starts, They call me back to the office. DISCLAIMER: It's mostly paraphased, actually quotes will be denoted as such. Because it certainly seemed that way in the meeting. It's as close to a word for word quote as my memory will allow. I know she used the words 'if, 'then' and 'very' and with the emphasis I highlighted in the quote because we argued about how those words modified her comment so that it came across as a threat. ub3rman123
Ever tried to buy fish at a Wal-Mart? It's worse than trying to find an available cashier because not 10% of the people working know how to catch them (Or maybe they do and pretend they don't). I'd offer to catch the fish myself and they could just supervise, but apparently it's against the rules. So I get to watch as an employee mashes my fish against the sides of the tank clumsily trying to catch it. No offense to the employees, they're not trained for it usually and I'd feel patronizing were I to offer advice on catching it. And Wal-Mart fish usually don't last long anyways so it is a bit of a waste of time...

Im not understanding what this whole verbal exchange means. Are you arguing with your boss over the fact that she wants you to show up to do the job they pay you to do? And you are actually getting away with telling her you won't? Where do you work? Because at my job we would never get away with this and I wouldn't even try it. If I am employed it means I am paid to show up and do my job, to tell my boss I won't do it is simply...strange. Do you expect them to pay you for the time that you will spend just not at work? I hope this was a vacation leave is all I am saying..
Vagrant0
Im not understanding what this whole verbal exchange means. Let me explain a bit. In America (and some other countries who use the same systems) jobs like this are not based around a weekly schedule. You work different times one week, then the other, sometimes a few times in the morning one week, then late nights closing the next. The schedule is such a bastard of irregularity that you pretty much have to put in several weeks in advance just have a day off that you can plan on. When companies are cutting hours, it isn't uncommon for someone to be left off the schedule, with the standpoint of employees who are hungry to work will speak up if they aren't getting enough hours. Or as is likely in this case, being left off the schedule, someone being upset because they're scheduled more than normal, trying to get their day off and complaining that so-and-so isn't on the schedule when they didn't request a vacation that week, and generally screwing up the schedule that was posted. One of the other reasons why I don't ever want to work retail again... You have to give someone a handjob and a kidney to get a consistent schedule. And Wal-Mart fish usually don't last long anyways so it is a bit of a waste of time... those poor things :( At our Wal-Mart they don't even have gravel at the bottom of the tanks...it's just a picture of gravel lol. We have a local fish store, but every fish I've bought from there has brought a disease into the tank. I figured they would be better than Petco...never gotten a fish from there that died or brought fricking ick into my tank. The one job I ever worked at also had a nice consistent schedule. I worked during the day because most of the people that did work there were in high school. Retail stores get you like that...make you work insane hours. I remember an interview I did for Shopko and they asked me why I didn't want to work on Sundays....really? I can't have one day off? I told them Sundays are normally the day I visit my mama in law and do laundry, they really didn't seem to like that idea. Didn't get the job anyways lol...didn't care really.
