JimboUK
What about Fair Use? You can't claim that when making a mod. You can make your mod dependant on the other mod, have that as a master or even require assets from the other mod, an example would be a companion that requires a certain hair pack to work. You cannot redistribute the other mod or any of its assets, even in edited form, you have to make it a requirement of yours and have people download it from the original page. wizardmirth
There is absolutely nothing in the "Fair Use" doctrine that applies to appropriating and incorporating someone else's mod into yours. You are not proposing publishing "limited excerpts for research, teaching, satire, or review/commentary."You are proposing stealing someone's work. :armscrossed: I am not proposing stealing anything otherwise I would have just gone ahead and done it already. If you just mean by nature it is wrong and stealing then ok. But no, I am not consciously proposing stealing of any kind, thank you. I am here asking questions to find out what is right and what this site allows. What about Fair Use? You can't claim that when making a mod. This is what I already proposed doing but then there was some going back and forth on the subject. Now, and since your are not officially a Nexus Staff responder here, I just really don't know what to think. Not to mention I brought this up late last year on the Mod Author's board and everyone, without much hesitation if any at all, said that even this was a big no-no and that no permission means you can't even do it this way. wizardmirth
Fair use doesn't apply here. Got that already. But can you make it a dependent file? Not OK (staff) vs. Yes OK (non staff): score - Staff 1, Non-Staffers 2. (of course 1 staff response may easily equate to like 100 points here, so no offense you "non-staffers" but I'm going to take a wild guess here and say that staff has/will overrule you) Can another staff member just come here and confirm this whole "if made dependent file and fairly credited then its okay or not" thing to rest? TheVampireDante
Make it dependent. Do not include any of the actual assets from the other mod in your upload - users must get those assets from the original mod page, from the author of that file. All there is to it. Holy friggin crap dude thanks! (And just in case anyone else is interested to know, the mod has no original assets and my use of this mod is two-fold: 1) I love the mod truly 2) had been planning on potentially expanding it in the most non-intrusive way with my own mod for many years now - in a way that people can still go an experience the original mod with both our mods installed so long as they have not yet gotten to that part of the quest in my mod yet. Just, FYI.)
