Turning Mods on & Off

I've searched the boards and I can't seem to find any answers. Sorry if this is too Nooby but...

I was playing with MMM and now I've decided not to play MMM. Is it OK to just uncheck and continue to play with my already saved games? Or will there be a problem with using previous saves? I know that it will inform me of "missing content" but this mod really didn't modify anything, it just added content. So, am I OK to do this?

It really depends on what the mods do and how "in use" it is in the current save. For instance, you would not want to turn off horse armor if you own a stable filled with armored horses because they'll all die. The safest way to do it is just to get rid of any items that belong to the mod you want to deactivate, then make a new save. Stop the game, turn off the mod, then play the new save for a while. Go check out areas that were affected by the mod to ensure they are back to normal, and everything is running smoothly. If you can't see any problems after a decent amount of exploring then you're probably safe. If the game crashes more than normal or some areas are jacked up or textures/meshes missing or npc's are acting weird, then no harm no foul because you were using an alternative save. In that case, let us know exactly what happened and maybe someone can help completely remove the effects of the mod.

In almost every mod there is a file named "Read me".

In case disabling the mod could have potentially dangerous effects for your save game, mod author usually adds an uninstalling section. Take a look to the readme file for the mods you want to disable, they could contain actions to prevent damaging your saved games.

As a side note, readme file is always worth reading for every mod you install.

That's what most of them are called. Wish they would put"*mod name* read me" on the text files. It'd do away with being asked if I want to overwrite and I'd have all the read me files in one place.

The mods without a read me file can be a problem. Ok...I downloaded that last week. Where did he say that place is....?

GenghisKhan....good nym......one of my favorite history heroes. Saladin is another.

You're right, mod author should really use "*ModName* READ ME.TXT", but you can always go to the archive file to read it, in case you've overwritten. That's what I do in case of doubts.

Sorry, but I did not understand what you mean in this part of the post. Can you please explain better your question ?

Genghis Khan was quite a military genius, he has been able to build alone the largest empire in history. Even better than the perfectly organized and superbrly trained roman armies !

Apologies for lack of clarification. I meant the mods that don't have a read me file can be a problem because we may not install them for a few days and by then, have forgotten what they said the mod was and where it is if a place.

Oo, careful you don't insult the Romans or some Italians may get upset with you.... :D

I see the Mongols as a military group, whereas, the Romans were more an engineering group that could fight. Have to admit, they were highly organized. But I can't help but wonder how many boards could the Mongols hoard if the Mongol Horde got bored.....

Oh well, I AM italian ! Romans were not an engineering group that could fight. They were professional soldiers.

The legionaries received heavy and standard military training, standard equipment, lighter than the one used in trainings, and standard fihgting techniques: stay protected behind your great shield, and stab with your dagger at the right moment.

It was a professional army, made of people which fought for pay and a piece of land after their retirement. Personal initiative was not encouraged, because entire cohorts moved as a single soldier.

Mongol Hordes were really different, several tribes united under a cruel and charismatic leader which used hit-and-run tactics. The army was mainly composed by light cavalry and horse archers.

That said, I really can't tell you what could have happened if the two would have came into contact.

Romans proved to be quite weak against cavalry forces, but always demonstrated to learn from their mistakes (see the battle of Zama). Also, their discipline always overcame the problems.

But Genghis Khan is for sure one of the most charismatic military leaders in history.

Also, there is a kick-ass instrumental song in the Iron Maiden album Killers. So I chose it as my nickname many years ago...

FYI-I read EVERY single "ReadMe" file that comes with every mod that I have ever downloaded. (I'm not an idiot) They sometimes tell you how to uninstall a mod. That part is simple, with or without their instructions. But I have never seen one that told you how to prevent damage or negative effects of unistalling or disabling their mod. And I checked MMM. There is nothing in there to help and not a word about uninstalling. I thought that I would look for a little help from someone that has done this before with MMM. But Thanks anyway.
