The best and worst thing about your job?

Hey folks,

In an attempt to get to know you all a little better i thought i would start a thread with a general enough topic: What do you do for a living and what do you like\hate about it? I don't just mean this to be aimed only at the individuals who are employed either. If we have any stay-at-home fathers or mothers or anyone who is very active in charity work or other nonprofit work then your input is more than welcome!

I'll go first: I'm an Information Systems Contractor for Logan Aluminum Incorporated.(Located between the sleepy towns of Russellville and Lewisburg, Logan County, Western Kentucky) My job consists mostly of 'Computer Help-Desk' type troubleshooting.

The good: My job is quiet, peaceful and generally undemanding (since i only work on weekends).

The bad: Having to take several hours of my time to fix a problem on someones laptop because it caught a virus when they let their 15 year-old download porn on it. :wallbash: :verymad: :wallbash:

The best thing about my jobs - organic market gardener, writer, artist/craftsman - is the independence. No one tells me what to do, or how to do it.

The worst thing: no one tells me what to do, or how to do it. It's all down to me.

well, my job... i guess you cant really say i have a "job" because i get paid under the table, but i work in construction. i draw up blueprints, do electrical work, and frame/drywall.

things i like: most of the time i can work when i like, i dont have to pay income tax either :)

things i dont like: i have to wake up early sometimes.

and P.S. to jojoman: just make their lappy cleanboot. none of the viruses i used to have work since i cleanboot, and turn off all the iex addons :)

I am small business owner... worse then deal with help Of course customers. that have little or no clue how to read a rule. Instead they bring me a piece of string. It is this big, well do you need something with glass, door, or window... its 20 question before i get the right answer.

Millwork salvage company.... overstock and overruns. Yes it might be cheaper than the box store, but still get the idiot of the world.

Hi to everyone!

I guess also that being a student is a job...

The good: Everyday I learn a lot of interesting things of all spheres (History, Latin, Greek, Philosophy, Literature, Art...) and I think that this knowledge made me more open minded.

The bad: I cannot put up with some nasty people who assists to class forced by the parents will! Obviously, I hate the week of exams.

Currently I'm a student, but I my future job is to work with hydropower n' stuff.

Pros: Not much to do during the days, cause nothing's happening. Go here, go there, write here, go and check over there....

Cons: When something actually happens.... I'm in for ALOT of work...

Hmmm.. Interesting Topic.

Well, I have a large background in the Automotive industry. I worked for Cadillac for almost a decade in the 90's up until 2001. Worked my way up the ladder so to speak. Started out as a car washer for the dealership I worked at, then worked my way up to a Tech & then into the service department office since I like working with people. My last 2 years I was the dealerships Warranty Administrator & part time Service Advisor.

I have worked with computers most my life, starting out with my C64 when I was 9, then moved onto Macs for a very short time when I realized that they were junk (Sorry to those of you that have & like Mac's) Worked with PC's extensively since 1990. Was one of six in my high schools Advanced Computer Class, of course to say Advanced & early 1990's is an oxymoron.

Now I do tech support for a few different websites just for fun, as well as type up PC game reviews. As a part time job, I have various clients that from time to time put money into my pocket or rather into my wifes purse.

Now, I work for Sare Lee Bakery. I fill the orders for all the many different cities & states that we deliver to & load the Semi's.

Pro's - Excellent pay, benifits & retirement. (.55 cent raise next month & a $2 raise this November. Year after next, a $3 raise. Cool bunch of people, though one of the Foreman's has dual personalities. A total Dr.Jekyl & Mr.Hyde. I'm in a very large & very old Union, so I have Job Security there. A manager with a power trip can not up & fire me for no reason. A very physical job overall. I have lost 28lbs since I started 5 months ago. Perks for working safely. Got a $25 gift card today because I have not been injured & that I work safe. My department is going on 11 years without a single accident. Highest rating in our entire district. So we get massive buffets 2 days every month during work. All you can eat of almost everything.

Con's - I'm the newest employee in the entire plant, so my hours suck. I get what I get & I better not throw a fit. Some days I have to load Buns. Loading buns absolutely & totally sucks. I'm sore in places I didn't know could be sore. Every day that i'm not scheduled, i'm on call. So I have gotten calls at all hours of the night. One time at 11pm, when I had went to bed at 10pm & so was dead tired, I still had to go in. another time was called @ 2am, was told to come in, got dressed & then was called back & told never mind.. Grr!
