Morrowind Style No Fast Travel & Mark/Recall spells

Hey fellow travelers,

The travel system in Morrowind was fairly balanced. You could take silt riders (in Skyrim's case, horse carriages) and there would be the handy dandy Mark and Recall spells.

That's my main suggestion that I'd love to see implemented. I've no idea whether this should be something easy or hard to create or whether modders will have to wait for the CK. Seeing that there is a Midas magic mod already, I think it could be implemented(?).

It would also be awesome if there was a Levitation spell like in Morrowind, however it would drain mana depending on how long the person levitates for. I think that it'd fit in the Alteration spell section.

Would be nice to see what others think of this is well. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been longing for Morrowind style.

Mark The Mage

P.S. Forgive me if there was a similar thread to this topic already!

I totally suport this.. full fast travel is game breaking. Lots of ppl say "you dont have to use it" but really, were human beings, the more you try to forbid something that is right there, the more you end up falling for it. Just revamp it in a way that you can only take carriages, and maybe some random traveling caravans along the roads, with the implementation of mark and recall. This would rock in terms of immersion in the game. The idea of levitation is also cool, but I think it should be an extremely magicka consuming spell, so it doesn´t become game breaking.

Yep, that's what I was totally thinking of :)

I also agree that the spell should be extremely magicka consuming. It was kind of game breaking in Morrowind because you could recast it and continue floating around. A staff should also have this function, just at a greater acceleration. Imagine levitating with a staff in one hand and shooting fireballs with the other! :D

I think that'd be a lore friendly jet trooper xD

I am actually thinking of making something like this a part of a overhaul mod I am making, as soon as I can find a scriptor to work with as far as the mark recall goes

Oblivion had a couple of mods that implemented something very very similar to what you are talking about.

If I remember, Midas had a sort of 'Mark and Recall' spell that would transport to, from, and between his magical realm and any point you marked with special gems.

There was also a player Mage-home that could transport you to and from the home to any of the Mages Guilds.

So yeah, if Skyrim is similar to Oblivion, then there should be a couple of mods like this once the CK is out.

Yeah, I've been a supporter of fast travel for a while, but after playing the game I'm starting to warm to the idea of this kind of mod. I remember the days of marking stones of virtue in Ultima 7 and it was quite fun, and very immersive (new word.)

At any rate, I'd love a new levitation spell line...

Jump - perhaps a weak version could be "Jump" where the player jump is increased.

Leap - A stronger version of jump, allowing for billy goating up those mountains.

Levitate - a timed, magika heavy version that allowed guided floating. I'd say 60 sec for a duration. 90 sec if duel wielded.

Woot! I remember that. Ultima 7 remains the #1 RPG of all time in my books.

I like the idea, but why not just have it consume mana over time? That way the total range/duration would be dependent on the character's mana reserves, rather than static.

The main reason I'd support it being timed is it lessens the exploit potential from mages with large magika pools. In essence, however, either way is timed, but setting the time keeps anything that is farther than 90 secs out of reach. But I'll concede those decisions to the mod maker. Either way, I'd be happy.

Actually I believe the fast travel hatters should install every king of mark/recall, carriages, mounts ... so they can enjoy the opportunity to train self control.

That's a lot of great feedback! Well, I guess all we can do is sit tight and wait for the CK.

Anyways, I stick to the magicka used per second idea. Naturally, mages will have an edge over warriors because they have more magicka.

This is logical. In Morrowind, one of those factions had castles through which the entrance would only be by levitating and entering from above.

The reason that those guys gave was so as not to let "barbarians" aka to them, Nords and warrior types easy entrance. There could also be a dragon shout which levitates like PirateDragon mentioned.
