Grey Face Bug

Hello, I know that this bug has been covered in hundreds of forums already.

The problem is I can't seem to find my particular problem on any of them.

My problem is that I haven't really installed many npc overhaul mods to my knowledge except for unpb and a skin texture mod for that.

Npc's all over the game are experiencing the grey face bug and I would appreciate any help with fixing this problem.

I know that my mods load order will be required but I don't know how to do that.

Make sure your body meshes are installed toward the bottom of your load order and if using NMM that they overwrite just about everything except maybe a skeleton or something. Grey face is due to missing textures in most cases, so what I would do is first reinstall your UNPB and Skin texture. Make sure UNPB is installed first and then the skin over it.

I have re installed unpb and the skin texture and I think they are in the correct load order I will see if this has fixed the problem.

 

The problem is still there, I also want to mention that the problem has also appeared on male npcs (tolfdir) that are to my knowledge not effectd by unpb or the skin texture mod.

 

ps how do i get my load order here without typing it all out?

Go to your LOOT, click on the 3 dots in the upper right. Click on copy load order and paste it here.

 

You might want to list out all mods that edit your textures/meshes for characters as they may not be displayed.

 

Specifically it is most likely related to your face tint masks not loading in, so somehow we need to find the cause for that. Either they are installed in the wrong location, or they got deleted. In which case, they need to somehow be reinstalled in the proper location.

The problem I have is that I understand that the bug is caused by a mod deleting or overwriting a file, but non of my mods effect male npc's as far as I know and yet tolfdir is effected.

I also use Mod Organiser for all my mods, and only some NPCs are effected by the bug.

As you've probably read, the grey face bug is hard to track down. I don't think it's caused by a simple female body and texture replacer though. At least I've never heard of something like that.

 

As far as I can see, apart from the two Serana files, there's only one mod that changes NPCs: Immersive College of Winterhold. If it's a problem with this mod, this would also explain why Tolfdir is affected. AFAIK, AOM also places some of its stuff on members of the College of Winterhold. So it changes NPCs. There might be a conflict. Try if changing the relative load order (which one of the two is loaded first?) of Immersive College and AOM.esp changes anything.

 

You can also try to create a Merged Patch with TES5Edit. Here's a guide:

At least in TES5Edit you can see, if you've got mod conflicts about NPCs.

I have tried running skyrim through mod organiser without any mods except for alternate start and conjure nocturnal (because it is affected by the bug) while starting a new game and the bug is still there.

also I have run vanilla skyrim without mod manager and tolfdir does not have the grey face bug. I hope this information is useful.

There is one thing I can think of that may or may not be able to fix this issue. The BSA's. I say this because it seems that the game conflicts with overwriting the loose files that are fully Dominant that those loose files are being overwritten by the Vanilla BSA files. Would it be feasible to unpack and delete the vanilla BSAs?

You got it backwards, that would be a total & utter disaster, but don't let me stop you, some times we have to learn the hard way.
