GenKazzum
I have posted this on the steam forrums recently but now that I think of it what I am saying seems like it is simply impossible. The issue:I just download my Fallout4 game after uninstalling it for a long time, At this point I had even un-installed NMM. I downloaded it again today, and installed NMM, both new and clean.. right? that is what is suppose to happen but then I noticed in NMM that there were mod plugins, so I looked inside the folders and my old mods I installed came down with my game download. Meshes, textures, etc. So I deleted the whole Meshes folder, and basically any folder that looked like it contained modded material and verified my cache integrity. Steam saw the missing files and are putting them back... all of them. Cross, Elianora, And many more folders are appearing in my game folder as I speak this right after deleting them. What is happening, how do I fix it?Summary:Steam appears to be holding a modded version of my fallout game that it thinks is the clean version.Deleting any of these folders and verifying cache integrity causes it to redownload mod material. NMM is clean and doesn't know about any of these installed mods, it just sees the plugins that turn most of them on or off.
Stealthwipe
There is another folder, which NMM uses to save the mods. The path should be C\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Fallout 4. Have you deleted that one?
Ethreon
No, steam is holding nothing. You didn't clean up your game install correctly.
GenKazzum
I completely deleted the fallout 4 folder using delete local content on steam about half a year ago.I then uninstalled NMM completely from my computer, mods and all. I downloaded NMM Later for use with skyrim, The NMM folder for fallout 4 is completely empty. My fallout 4 game I just downloaded from steam has mods in it. GenKazzum
well that's the issue, NMM doesn't report any mods just the plugins its finding in the data directory. but my Meshes folder has folder named Elianora, Immersive Vendors, Justice, RRelay, SSEX, CROSS so on and so forth and while the game appears to function vanila I find it strange these folders keep coming back. But I will follow your advice and post again on the results although it will take a whole day for me to do so.
Ethreon
Sorry to break it to you, but no, you didn't. Steam DOES NOT store your modded game. Never did, never will.
GenKazzum
I realise it's the impossible hence the title however I can't see what else can be causing this and you just saying it's impossible doesn't add anything to this thread.I came here for help, not judgement. No, steam is holding nothing. You didn't clean up your game install correctly. Sorry to break it to you, but no, you didn't. Steam DOES NOT store your modded game. Never did, never will.Give me advice, I'm receptive to trying anything however both of your comments so far haven't had anything remotely looking like what I should try or what I might of missed. GenKazzum
Alright, I found that if I deleted the folders 1 by 1 they would not restore. If I tried to be lazy and delete the whole mesh folder for example it would restore the files and folders, but I had also disabled Steam cloud sync between here and there. not sure what or why this was happening between the two things. Ethreon
Got to admit it's weird, since the most Steam ever saves are your saves, not mods or anything. Possibly NMM related.
