CTD when entering dungeons.

What is it with you people all wanting 200+ mods load order and expecting this to work flawlessly without a problem? I checked the log0 and it ain't a papyrus script problem but most likely a mesh issue from a item a mod replaced with something else.

Start a new game, without ANY mods activated. Also turn off any mods that are textures replacers that have no plugins but are mainly environnemental texture mods from the nmm. We want a clean start. Just keep alternate start to save on time.

Make a clean save. This will be your test save. Turn the game off, activate 1 mod and turn the game back on and make sure you turned off autosave when heading into bleak falls barrow and enter the cavern. Repeat this process with your 196 mods until you get a ctd. This is annoying, this is a long process, but it works.

Pathtopower is correct when you mod a game you will in fact be taking the chance on the game CTD'ing due to conflicts with either something in the vanilla game or between other mods. I'm currently getting random CTD's myself I know that it's from a mod yet I don't know which one. Been dealing with it for now cause I'm 1. to lazy to go through 135 mods 2. don't have the free time to go through all of them. I am hoping to wait til SKSE is released and then deal with it. I'll probably take a couple of days off work and just sit down and work through all of my mods.

Tooldealer Might I suggest you get rid of the "Wet & Cold" mod for which you have last in your load order. Without SKSE it's been known to make the game have various CTD's and it even states as much the main page for the mod. I told another person this and now they aren't having any more issues with the game.

I would be interested in the outcome of this.

As a Skyrim player with several years of experience running over 200 mods and I can assure you it can be done, but it is a bit of an art form. Most place / action CTDs are resolvable. Blindly shovelling 20 mods, let alone 200 into a game will kill it unless properly done.

However, I have had a complete CTD on entering Skybound Watch Pass. For Skybound Watch I cleared my game and started fresh - and this made no difference. Which is weird.

However, now I'm experiencing the same with Riften Jail. I can't believe it's the original game - it has to be something I have introduced. I just tried completely clearing my inventory with no luck.

This is a toughie, and may be affecting Tooldealer as much as me. However, Tooldealer, I see you are not using Wrye Bash? You should introduce that to your game.

There were reports that a commonly used mesh was crashing certain, but not all dungeons in SE. SMIM apparently cured it, but I've tried rolling it back with no luck.

So, if anyone has ideas, I'm all ears (well, not literally). If I find the solution to my issue, I'll let you know.

In my old skyrim I had over 380 mods, all merged...mostly. It was a piece of art that actually worked for 3 hours of pure hdt good adult blissful fun before the inevitable ctd happened due to the original game ram limitations. Skyrim 64 does not have that limitation anymore but it has annoying mods from the old skyrim format that just do not work in the new format. Currently at 61 mods plugins in a total of 85 mods. Best to wait until skse64 with its patches to help stabilise the whole freaking mess before adding the REAL mods to make the game more fun.

Alright as for the riften jail and dungeons ctd, ok there are certain tools that can, might, could possibly work. It worked for me when i had to do major fixes in the past when some mods just did not want to play nice and I had to to hit them with a shovel in the face to make em work.

SSE NIF Optimizer

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4089/?

This tool helps makes the mesh files in the meshes folder that includes environnements folders, clothes and other meshes work in more optimal manner. You put the file in the mesh folder (NOT IN THE /data/mesh but in the data/mesh/xxxx), click on it and it gets the job done by rebuilding them so they will work in skyrim SE efficiently. This fixes armors, weapons and environnemental meshes. Do not use this in the actor files that include facial tint or body skin. Just follow the faq. I had issues with monster mods and armor mods that had the big triangle spawn and this tool fixed that issue.

SkyrimTools -- Script Cleaner and more

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/5031/?

This utility tool is your god of mercy when it comes to giving corrupted save files a second chance at coming back from the brink of being unsalvageable. Read the faq in how to use without blowing up your save files. This removes orphan scripts if you guys commit blasphemy in remove mods in your playthrough. We all do this mistake from time to time and this tool help fixes it. Just be sure to follow the instructions to the letter. Specially the Save as a new name part. Else you won't be able to load the fixed save.

Instructions
See the Videos section for more detailed instructions.
Getting started:

  1. Unzip the SkyrimTools archive somewhere.
  2. Double-click on ReSaver.exe.
  3. Choose your savegame.
  4. You should see a tree structure that has all of the save's script elements.
  5. The #1 thing that most people need is to remove script instances that are not attached to anything.
  6. Go to the "Clean" menu and select "Show Unattached Instances". This will filter the list and show only the script instances that aren't attached to anything.
  7. Go to the "Clean" menu and select "Remove Unattached Instances".
  8. Save to a new file. <==== "Save as" option do not overwrite your old save file. Rename it like 1234 or it won't work.
  9. Load your savegame in Skyrim and make sure it's working properly.

Restore Vanilla Skyrim SE

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4697/?

This one, this one might help you out Bluegunk. This will help restore the skyrim vanilla settings to its original state without having to do a complete full deinstallation and reinstall. This would in theory help remove whatever file that edited some obscure navmesh file in Skybound Watch Pass.

After that, you need to pretty much make a clean save right next to skybound watch pass, and do the standard activate 1 mod at a time and walk into the dungeon until you ctd to find the culprit and terminate his ass with extreme prejudice preferably with your teeth at its jugular.

Thanks PathtoPower - a very helpful reply! Both excellent tools and I've used the NIF Optimizer to sort out mods that were supposed to have been prepared for SSE, but in fact were only half-baked.

The NIF Optimizer will correct non SE NIFS to be SE standard, though needs using with care. I strongly advice not to blithely use it over the Data/Meshes/ folders. Use it on individual sub-folders like architecture, etc, and stay away from Actors and creatures!!

I'm getting pretty sure the issue is broken meshes. There's a mesh in use in the areas I'm having CTDs. I've used all the regular approaches to check the esps and conflicts, and come across nothing. But it only takes one or two bad NIFs to kill a place.

So, you have prompted me to use NIF Optimiser on a much larger scale, and run it over what I have installed and see if that cures the problem.

I'll let folks know how I get on. Right - off to get a coffee and start...!

Many of my mods were installed using the SEPTIM guide. Assuming that so many installations were ordered, I could rule that the majority wasn't the issue. After agonizingly reinstalling all of my mods, I discovered that Deadly Spell Impacts was causing my crash. I have no idea why it was affecting dungeon interiors specifically, but using an Oldrim mod with SE carries such risks, I suppose.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't use Deadly Spell impacts. Shame - I would have had an answer!

Due to using NMM, I could not track down the dodgy meshes without spending more hours than I wanted. I did get Skybound Pass to work, only for Riften Jail to blow out.

In frustration I trashed the game (a process familiar to most of us  ) and took a chance on using the developing MO2. I'm glad to see it has progressed well since I last tried it, and seems workable now.

I've nearly completed a rebuild and have successfully checked all of it so far. Here goes...

Thanks for your help!

I will second pathtopower's suggestion, I am pretty convinced about what he said about NIF Problem.

To cut the story short, those NIF files coming from Oldrim was causing CTD in dungeons and draugr. Luckily, we got an autosave at that point, everytime we load = CTD. When we found pathtopower's suggestion, we NIF Optimized every folder related to architecture, chairs so on, armors, and NIF's from oldrim. Tedious, but worthwhile, we loaded the problematic autosave and it magically started without CTD! So our configuration definitely is a NIF problem.

i did all of these suggestions and nothing changed. same advices given to me when i tried to remove immersive armos but after removing i got naked dremora lords in the game.

- fallrim tools

- cleaning masters tesv edit or sseedit.

are worthless tools.

don't bother yourselves for how to figure out these programs for hours. in the end you get nothing but the feeling "oh i cleaned all of my saves master finally. oh DAEDRE'S SAKE! i am too happy so i can die now peacefully"

tl:dr these programs are for psychology thing, to fell you better nothing more. they solve nothing.

i tried everything and still getting ctd in certain caves and still getting naked dremora lord.

so here my advice, try not to enter those caves if the caves have another levels. (teleport yourself to another level) just type console coc "place id". place IDs can be found here: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim)/Locations

and for naked dremora, i didn't uninstall it because i couldn't at all. just disable everything comes with immersive armors in the game. open immersive armors settings and disable everything and continue to play. thankfully i don't get naked dremora lord anymore as well as the disgusting childish red version comes with the immersive armor mod.
