Fallout 4 cannot start due to NMM and it's many shortcomings

before you go: I'll let you know WHY the game and Nmm "this game" are having issues.

  1. Fallout 4 is a 64bit game.
  2. You have steam installed in a (x86) UAC windows control folder "32bit."
  3. (x86) represents 32bit. The path is known issue and most that discover this have already invested way too much time into their games to believe it.
  4. Windows must install anything from steam into that folder but correct or not, that's the problem.
  5. You can rename the steam folder and reinstall steam else where other than (x86), preferably on another drive and reinstall any 64bit game there.
  6. none of the script extender questions will matter here, windows won't allow them to run any way. Not in a UAC Environment.

  • 1 year later...

...well here I am reading this thread a year later and I still can't launch FO4 from NMM. I tried...download the steam64.dll and paste near launcher..., it can't find the SteamUser...then it couldn't find the libSce.dll file. I had a hard time initially running the game through steam but figured out to stay off-line from Steam...4ever :p else my pc gets stuck updating what I don't want...omg! Load"*",8,1 (commodore 64 games load script) was sooo much easier. I guess it's back to manually installing mods and hoping for "no purple people" or game crashes! If only their were some gigantic algorithm. It would be really big!

I hope your issues were resolved Pyroy <Stranger>!

Not updating a game can, in and of itself, cause problems. There can also be problems depending on which version of NMM you're running. I would suggest verifying your game cache through Steam, then reinstalling NMM. Don't uninstall it first, just put the new install over the old one. See if that sorts things out for you.

Also, is NMM the only mod manager you're running? You're not trying to use NMM and MO2 both, right? :)

I can understand people getting frustrated with things. I will state I run Mod Organizer, Mod Organizer 2, and NMM. But all for different games. I won't be using Vortex for the foreseeable future. (I like the virtual file system of the previously mentioned mod managers, and hate anything going into my Bethesda game's data folder that I don't know about. I had issues with this in the past, severe issues.) I have NMM, right now, restricted to Dragon Age Origins. Mod organizer separate installs for Fallout 3, NV, and Skyrim. I am thinking of adding Oblivion to my list of games, and using Mod Organizer for that. I use Mod Organizer 2 for Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special Edition. I won't say that NMM is worse, or better, than MO/2, nor will I say the reverse

In order to properly mod games, from start to finish, it is best to not install to the Program Files, or even Program files (x86) hierarchy. That will mean you have to reinstall steam elsewhere, or make a steam folder on another hard drive. This was advice give to me a long time ago when I was first modding Fallout 3. It has been with me since, in the back of my mind. You should also install NMM on the same drive, not the same folder, as your game folder. When you install Fallout 4, run the game through the launcher. Let the launcher set up things. Then run it to the main menu. Exit the game. This sets up things. Next, install F4SE, latest version, install it right to where you have Fallout 4 located. After you install, run it. There are videos on other games, but do apply to Fallout 4, for installing stuff. Dirty Weasel Media does a wonderful job at Fallout New Vegas stuff. So does Gopher. There are others, but most tend to be long, and involved. Once you run F4SE, and get to the main menu, exit out. Now, load NMM, and run the Launcher through it, and then F4SE. This does a few things. It sets up NMM to run Fallout 4 for you. After that, download your mods. However, before you go too far, Install only a few mods at a time. And just be careful.
