So i've been modding skyrim for a few weeks here and i updated the nexus mod manager today and all the sudden my mods stopped working. After 4hrs i got some to load but only the files that appear in the plugins tabs or in data files on the launcher. I would really like some help on how to make the ones not in there work. For example I wanted to use XP32 Skeleton mod but the mod doesn't appear in the plugins and so even though it has a check next to it on the mods page it wont activate in game. Anyone know what too do?

Err, while I agree with the possibility of UAC issues, NMM does NOT have to be on the same drive as Steam. Mine isn't and I don't have any issues.

OP: since you say the issue started only after you updated NMM, perhaps it "lost track" of your mods. Check out what Kroekr suggested. Make sure both you and NMM have Admin rights. After that, if NMM still isn't "seeing" most of your mods, check here for more help.

It's not every mod doesn't go through to the data file its only a few. For Example I downloaded a random armor mod to see if it would appear in the plugins tab in NMM and it did, but when i downloaded HDT Physics or XP32 Maximum Skeleton mods they don't appear in the plugins and even though they have a green check they don't activate.

Is there a way to add files by hand to the plugins tab in NMM or the Data Files on the skyrim launcher?

Just to clarify for us, do you use the "Download with Manager" button, or do you use the "Download Manually" link next to it? I'm guessing you use the former.

I like to download manually. Just put the zipped file in a convenient directory labeled something like "Skyrim Mods" and then use NMM to install the mod using the "Add Mod from File" option from the green plus sign drop-down menu as shown below:

NMM then unzips the file automatically. All you have to do is activate the mod normally. Yes, this is an extra step, but has the advantage of NMM knowing exactly where your mods are. (And YOU know where they are too.) Unless you move your mod folder, NMM shouldn't lose track of the mods. Some mods (SKSE for example) work better if you extract the zipped files yourself and drop them in your Skyrim folder as directed by the mod maker(s). Gopher's video (link at the SKSE site) is a good example of how such mods work.

I just noticed that NMN has updated to 0.63.13 which included some bug fixes, one of which is specifically about NMM losing track of large mod files/directories. If you don't already have this version, updating now MIGHT fix your issue. Give it a try first.

EDIT: Forgot to mention another advantage to manual downloads. If a mod author abruptly pulls his mod(s) off the Nexus (and it happens occasionally) then you have the full zipped archive of the mod on your hard drive and don't have to worry about losing the mod if you every have to make a clean-sweep of your mod list and start over with a re-install.

I tried too download it manually like you said and I got the mod in the mod manager from adding the file but it still has the same issue. I'll have to try to update my NMM but mine can't update for some reason as of now so i'll have to get back to you once it updates. Thank you for the help btw m8.

Oh and i used the download with manager at first.

NOW I suspect that you're having UAC issues. Make sure you (and NMM) have Admin privileges.

If you keep having issues, it might be time to nuke your NMM from orbit and do a fresh install. If you do, make sure you have Admin rights before you begin.

Question: Are you having issues with other programs at random? If so, you might be looking at a hard drive failing. Do you have an HDD or SSD or both? Which drive(s) are your NMM and any other programs you might be having issue with on?

It has privileges, just made sure. I only have problems with nexus and most mods work but only some don't and it could be cause they don't have .esp or whatever at the end i have no idea cause from my hours of research i came up with nothing. If i do a fresh install how can i save my mods so i dont have to reinstall the working ones? I have about 70.

If you still have the zipped original mod files, just keep them in a folder. After the re-install of NMM, you'll have to add them back in.

As for mods that you DON'T have the original zipped files for, I have no experience with that. Since re-downloading a lot of mods would be tedious to say the least, perhaps someone with experience in this matter could chime in please?
