thesapien
- Don't want to waste your arrow you have ready to fire? Hold down your weapon sheath key to put it back down quietly. (Wish I had known this a while ago) Same with casting spells. Changed your mind and don't want to waste that magic? Sheath button. It's also helpful when you decided you need move quickly and don't have your shot lined up. No loss. Just try again. Also, notice that keeping that spell cast or arrow drawn will keep your magic or stamina from replenishing so it's best to sheath right away if you've changed your mind. thesapien
On PC to remove a drawn arrow without firing it, go to favourites menu (Q for me) and de-select and then re-select the bow. This will remove the arrow. (It might not be silent, and it only works when the bow is favourited. If it isn't, simply use the items menu). EB If you're using an 360 controller just hit X. thesapien
I avoid skill books unless I know for sure it is for something I plan to specialize in. Otherwise, it helps level you up, which results in also leveling up enemies, all for something you don't use. I try not to get too rich either because it levels you up in Speechcraft, unless I actually have plans with that coin. Otherwise, getting rich just to get rich will level up your enemies also, yet the game won't let you smooth talk or taunt during fights.
Astaril
This is a great thread! there are so many things here that I didn't know that will be seriously useful or just fun tol try out! It would be really nice to have it pinned at the top of the forum for a while so people can keep adding to it. This is a bit lame compared to some on here but if you like decorating your house and want to have some flaming torches dotted around you can do this by the following method...equip torch > drop on ground > leave house > log out of game > log back in the auto save you just got from leaving the house > re enter house and they should be lit and ready to place where ever you like. :) I avoid skill books unless I know for sure it is for something I plan to specialize in. Otherwise, it helps level you up, which results in also leveling up enemies, all for something you don't use. Arh good point, also I try to save my skill books for as long as possible so that you get the benefit of the point at the higher level when it would usually take longer and be harder to achieve. (Wish I had known this a while ago) - Giants are your friends in killing Dragons. Not only are they pretty good at killing dragons, but they tend not to attack you once the dragon is dead. Good tips  How do you get giants to help kill a dragon without spoilers?
Wael90
How do you get giants to help kill a dragon without spoilers?Dragons will attack any living being they spot and those will attack back (99% of them). Giants are not an exception. You can't really plan the whole thing though, unless you want to run for your life all the way to a Mammoth/Giants area and expect them to attack the Dragon. :P
mclericp
tip: Dont fall in Markarth. tip 2: Jumping from a high cliff, you must check the ground. If its water, u will survive even though it is like 1km away. If its land....tip 3: In blackreach, if you wander into the numerous chapels, there are nords there.tip 4: When ready to travel(not fast travel), always remember to bring potions if you are low leveled. Those bears can 2hko you so be ready to heal.Tip 5: Always save as backup. Dont come crying saying how u fell off a cliff after 20min of gameplay and u didnt save. and about the guy who said follow foxes in game. i tried following one and it lead me into a giant and his mammoth VS a sabertooh cat... Maybe Orcs as well. Kinda blew me away. I feel a little sad though, such a beautiful place like Blackreach, almost deserted.
Ferodaktyl
buff your companion before a tough fight ( i always forget to do so) if you're going melee with the npcs, DON'T give your companion magic staffs ( maybe just summoning ones )
