Been playing for about two or three years now, on and off. In an off period at the moment, largely due to the time of year. While the suns out theres stuff to do, so I usuallyv end up play Eve during winter.

Does anyone else have a problem explaining that you cant just press pause, or save the game, and that the damned bulb/leaking tap/spider will have to wait?

I nearly applied to the Alliance and Corporation Recruitment Center. I had composed my post, when I remembered that I had bought 6 months of POS fuel as a present for myself some time back. So I onlined the POS and have been doing research and invention. Tried inventing some T2 battleships but failed. Am now inventing cruisers and frigates, with the occasional battlecruiser.

Am also trying to produce my own POS fuel. This was actually a pleasant surprise, as planetary interaction has been much improved. Have ten installations going at the moment, and hopefully this will have positive results.

Have not been paying attention to trade and have this feeling at the back of my mind that I am losing money. There is no immediate or apparent return for the vast amounts of ISK I that have sunk into research and invention. I have no idea what I am going to do with all the T2 BPCs that are piling up. I suppose they may come in useful some day. I could do a lottery, or give them as rewards to corp members for some future activity, or open up a T2 BPC shop, or sell them on contracts, or just hoard them...

Have also been buying large amounts of minerals and salvage using buy orders for the last couple of months. Thought I might as well, as the next logical step would be to build some stuff to benefit from the research. This has further reduced my liquid ISK, with again no immediate returns. Thankfully, I am not too keen on building T2 stuff atm, thus eliminating this ISK sink for the time being. Though I have this creepy feeling that I might soon get interested in this aspect of industry.

There were riots at Jita and Amarr.

I was there at the beginning. Crashed out of Jita, got caught in traffic at Perimeter, and eventually moved to Amarr to continue protest against unwanted change.

Later, I analysed our reaction, but could not correctly classify my own behaviour into one of the the 4 categories. I quote:

Eve player base reaction to recent changes (Incarna) in Eve was a classic study in moving cheese. Ref:
by Spencer Johnson. I'm a Haw btw.

In the story, when the cheese gets moved the characters react thus:

Sniff and Scurry, the mice, had already noted the decrease in supply of cheese. They quickly put on their boots and went out in the maze to find new cheese.

Sniff sniffed around and determined a direction and guided scurry to run ahead. By trial and error and with persistence they eventually found Cheese Station N with a limitless supply of new cheeses.

Hem and Haw, the little people, were shocked when the cheese was moved. They had not noticed the little changes that had preceded. They could not believe this was happening to them.

They kept analysing why the cheese had been moved. They let their beliefs and fears cloud their reaction. They had got used to the constant supply of cheese and feared going out into the maze again.

They figured the cheese may have been moved behind the wall. They started hitting the wall, and eventually made a small hole, but there was no cheese on the other side. Instead of looking elsewhere, they enlarged the hole, with no result.

Haw realized that it was pointless waiting for the old cheese to appear. He laughed at himself and at his fears, and envisioned himself enjoying the best cheeses in the world and decided to set out into the maze to search for them. He had put his boots away, and it took him a while to find them.

Before leaving he tried to reason with Hem. But Hem was still angry at why the cheese had been moved. He refused to leave the security of the cheese station and was convinced that the cheese would reappear.

Haw had a tough time finding new cheese. But he was happy in the search, feeling invigorated and young. He found some small bits of new cheese in a large cheese station, but somebody had already been there. He took a piece to Hem, but Hem would still not look for new cheese.

Eventually Haw found Cheese Station N, his old friends, and the new cheeses which made him very happy. One day he heard the noise of someone approaching. He hoped it was Hem.

I bought a Hyperion, filled it up with ammo and settled in for a prolonged protest at Jita. Then I figured this was Hem-like behaviour and got really confused.

Sam.... Are you still playing? It's been a long time. I've been following your story. It's inspiring really. I hope you're not dead, out there floating in space...

Four years since I got my pilot's license and started this log.

http://image.eveonline.com/Character/90927795_256.jpg

Disillusioned by micro-transactions, the NEX store (greed) and the tone used by CCP to address the issues, I posed as Sylvia von Harden and proposed a plan for a modelling and escort agency. This generated great interest and I was approached by a number of people who offered to work on the project with me. They had different ideas and suggestions for turning this into a highly profitable (RL) venture. It was quite a ride.

I ended up un-subbing all but one of my (9) accounts. Back to 900 market orders. I saw many trade opportunities, but was not motivated to take advantage. This gave me the idea for starting a trade apprenticeship. I have always believed in dissemination of knowledge, contrary to the unwritten Trade Law: Thou shalt not reveal thy trade secrets.

The experiment was quite successful. Unfortunately all but one (Ipyr) of the apprentices have stopped playing Eve or un-subbed their accounts over the last few months. Ipyr, was particularly successful and is now a Director in Games Inc. I had a great time going through the paces with the apprentices and may do this again in the future.

The POS was attacked recently. It had been low on resources since the introduction of fuel blocks. I was on my way with new fuel, but the journey took many days. In the meantime Eve Trade Consortium (our Alliance) was war decced by a 2 man corp. By the time I got to the POS, only the control tower was left standing.

This has motivated me to start industry again. I've onlined the POS and Ipyr and I are now starting on a long term invention and manufacturing project with an aim to produce 70-90 percent of the T2 stuff we sell. As I am interested in T2 ship invention, we may branch into that in the long term. We are also working on a Tornado project where we're going to manufacture and supply these ships at strategic locations.

I have also bought the new tier 3 BCs and am going to try and use them for blitzing level (2 and) 3 missions (standings with Sisters and Gallente). This is an excuse to fly these ships, which I'd be unlikely to use otherwise in my carebearish activities.

You describe very well a rather impressive progression from when you first started out to where you are today, two quotes which illustrate the vast contrast between your early days and now are:

"In the meantime I upgraded my ship despite a number of poor decisions while trying to trade. I have been unable to sell even one item at profit yet. "

and

"I ended up with about 2 billion invested, and at one stage ran short of funds necessitating encashment of datacores. Have got my investment up to 14 billion, which is more reassuring."

For the record, I think I crossed the 100 billion NAV (net asset value) mark recently. Am experimenting with speculation nowadays, as I have lots of cash that I have difficulty investing (with my reduced numbers of market orders).

Oh wow it's been over a year since I've been here, will have to re read this when I have time as I remember it was a fascinating story.

For myself, I gave up mining after being inspired by your story. I started small by trading ammunition around Hek, and eventually earned enough ISK to buy a few modules and slowly built a base off of that. I recently passed the 2 billion mark and blew nearly half of it on a shiny new Legion, which I use to supplement my trading income by scanning down radar sites and other cosmic signatures.

Empire space was getting too predictable, so I have ventured out into NPC null and am finding it a lot more difficult to head back and adjust my buy and sell orders, a bunch of which have just expired. Perhaps when I haul my small booty back to empire, I can swing by my trading hubs and repost everything in the hopes it doesn't all get undercut too quickly, before heading back out to null. I still cant bring myself to jump through a wormhole though with my Legion, it was freaky enough in there alone with a cheap Battlecruiser.

Perhaps I should invest some time into finding a corp and finally getting out of this NPC one, my play time is sporadic though, and with summer fast approaching I fear it will just get worse...

Glad to see you are keeping this blog going. :)

Cheers!

Az
