Alright bro no need to go all "jerk-mode engage" on me, geez

It seemed weird that i just happened to me right now, i was about to lose it since im not in the US.

because it is apparent that you are not on the internet either.

how the hell could you not have known about SOPA if you use the internet?

and SOPA sucks, if it passes, jerk companies can jsut shut down sites if there was just a link to a copyrighted material. hell, they don't even need proof, they can just shut a site down and make the owner prove that there are no copyrighted materials on the site.

so say goodbye to youtube, facebook, twitter, Nexus, wikipedia, all sites that have torrents of any kind, all forums that even allows posting of pictures/screenshots of movies/tv shows, etc etc.

that bill will basically shut down the internet

I dont keep up with foreign bills that arent even out yet, so i only recently found out, anyway, when did i say i dont know about SOPA ? i was surprised by the picture and posted without reading the whole thread or carefully studying the picture to realize its a protest.

SOPA = any site that remotely may violate a copyright, picture, movie, music, you name it, will be taken down, if taken to court. There dont need to be overwhelming evidence on this matter, nor will the site get a warning to remove the copyright violation.

That's include the NEXUS sites, as there is a lot of copyright violations, like Star Wars mods, The Witcher mods, Warcraft mods and so on. In order for NEXUS to still be working in the US after SOPA hits, there needs to be someone checking EVERY mod for copyright violations or Nexus will be taken down.

Youtube need to do the same, remove ANYTHING that might violate a copyright, like a small kid singing a Lady Gaga song as that is essential a copyright violation or they will be blocked.

If you upload a picture you have taken yourself with a camera to Facebook, you will violate the copyright if you upload it to any other site and that site can be blocked, as Facebook owns the picture.

Anything you share with someone on a website got the potential to be misused for copyright violations and there for have the potential to get blocked.

So yeah this might just an US bill, but it will effect rest of the world. If China made something like SOPA, US and Europe would be the first to call CENSOR!!!

SO YEAH YOU SHOULD CARE

What i have written ofc are in worst case, but the most cruel things come from the most innocent ideas!

It's ignorant uninformed website operators who are overreacting to something they haven't got the first clue about. By tomorrow, it'll all be over.

T-Roll?

Ignorant website operators? You mean like Google and Wikipedia just to drop two BIG names? Try reading up on the subject before you write such ignorant and uninformed things.

It will not pass, if SOPA passes youtube, facebook, basically almost every site will be shut down.If youtube is shut down is actually bad for game companies since lot of people check reviews or gameplay videos before buying a game and who says games says movies...They are making things worse and people will get less information because we will only see what they want us to see -.- Edited by scot

First of all WTF its not a warez or any other piracy site

Second WTF I am in the UK???

It's ignorant uninformed website operators who are overreacting to something they haven't got the first clue about. By tomorrow, it'll all be over.

The amusing thing about all this is that the Congress people they're trying to influence are not going to be phased by it. The only thing those guys respond to are actual hand written letters, phone calls to their offices, and PERSONALIZED emails. Not mass petitions. I'd wager all the mass petitions are filtered at their spam walls. They're in no danger of getting booted from office, and the only reason the White House came out against the bill is because it's an election year where the president is going to lose, and lose badly.

SOPA is indefinitely shelved after the incredible internet backlash started hurting bottom lines of major companies in support of the bill. 10,000 accounts lost on GoDaddy when they came out in support of SOPA, and it was shelved. They don't care what we think? Sure they don't.

EDIT: Also, if you read reddit's main page FAQ they point out that ironically, it's not that hard to circumvent. The US STATE DEPARTMENT has already paid for and developed the tools to get around SOPA. :\

If by "indefinably" you mean "till February" then yes.

Well, you're making it a bit more dramatic than it is - it's not like it threatens youtube's existence, even tho it could be deadly for smaller sites.

This just kind of made me chuckle a little. Yes thats exactly what it means, this site too just FYI could come under fire. In a sense, you're right... they wont SUDDENLY up and disappear but they are *all* under threat from the bill and thats the problem. The specific problem is the potential abuse that the bill provides and the only thing it does to STOP ONLINE PIRACY is, oh gee, pirates will have to type a IP address into their bar instead of typing in the name of the site. Tragic for them.

Meanwhile it threatens every user created content site on the internet at the whims of our government and Hollywood or any other special interest that can buy the opinions of our politicians. Including this one, just FYI

For example: That Randy Savage mod? Yeah thats probably illegal under this bill, pretty sure the Wresting Federation has rights to his name. This site could be punished by losing its revenue stream (advertisers *forced* to close accounts) and the ISP hosting this site could be sued to remove DNS links to this site, google or other search engines could be *forced* to remove links going to the site JUST because one if its users uploaded that mod.

Would they actually use the power? Do you REALLY want to trust them not to? It lays the groundwork for abuse.

and yes - I don't care where you live... if you trade with the United States then you're at risk - unless you really think our government can't "sway" or rather impose its will on your government. It sounds arrogant sure, but its not a fact I am personally proud of.

I read just recently that the US convinced the UK government to extradite a 23 year old college student to our country for copyright infringement. He will be held accountable to our laws while he doesn't even live in our country and his government (which is SUPPOSED to be protecting its people) let this happen. He could be held in OUR prisons - which are FOR PROFIT just in case you didn't know. Our jails want as many prisoners as they can get - its a big business. Starting to paint a pretty little picture here aren't I?

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/local-national/uk/tv-shack-website-creator-faces-extradition-to-us-for-movie-links-16103530.html

I don't care how much money he made, it was on his own soil. The US has no right. If he was doing something illegal, his own court system should be responsible for finding him guilty. You should probably be angry your government allows this to happen. It should also make sense to you, now, why we don't want these people to have even more power to impose their will on others. This isn't SOPA, this is already in place and happening. SOPA and PIPA just give more power to these assholes.

Welcome to the United States - Hollywood world police. I can't tell you how glad I am that instead of providing health care to its people, better energy solutions, public mass transit, college education for its people... my tax dollars are being used to prosecute people in other countries so that the movie industry can MAYBE sell a few extra movies - because thats what is important.

Right, I think I've used up all the political this site can handle. EXCELSIOR!! *woosh*
