People really need to pull their heads out of their asses.

This bill is a threat to most websites on the internet.

"Oh, the Nexus is safe, it's not a piracy site"

Doesn't matter, all that is required is for a company to make a claim. They don't have to verify and there is no due process. The site would be added to the blacklist and there is no process for appeals.

"But I'm not in the US nor is Nexus"

Does it matter? How much traffic does the Nexus get from the US? How much comes from Google? Yes, it's possible to get around the blocks. But only for those that know how and new visitors from searches will drop like flies. So there you go, Nexus loses a great deal of traffic from the US.

Further, Nexus uses Paypal for donations. If a user were to upload a mod featuring copyrighted content, all that has to happen is for the owner to file a complaint, show evidence of the infringement then BAM! Nexus loses Paypal support. Again, there's no court hearing, there's no process for appeals. Nexus will be forced to find another payment method. I'm not sure how difficult that'll be, since I've only ever used Paypal and the only other methods I know of are either owned by American companies or strictly for use in one country(there's an Australian version of Paypal if I recall correctly).

Don't think a malevolent entity would ever file a false claim? It's happened already.

No one uploads copyrighted content because it's against the rules?

Bam, Nexus is already running afoul of SOPA/PIPA.

Finally, SOPA/PIPA are American bills, but they're everyone's problem. Not just because of what I stated above, but also because of this.

This is a violation of several copyrights and will get Youtube blocked under SOPA.

Is that the internet you want?

Not blocked. Shut down.

P.S. his posting of that video here means that Nexus would be blocked under SOPA.

But wont this not also effect chat programs using the internet aswell, as stuff like Steam, MSN, Skype and IIRC are part of the internet aswell? If i post a link with a copyright violation like that vid, my internet connection should be block/shut down aswell. Or if there is a main server handling the trafic it should be shut down or blocked.

There is copyrighted material all over the internet, even here on nexus there are images showing ripped content wich is a reason to SOPA shut down this site :( If SOPA passes I´ll simply uninstall internet from my house and save money.Nexus and youtube are the sites I use most, if those are finnish then no use for the internet.

I have a strong feeling SOPA won't pass.
