[LE] Quick question on microphones for dialogue recording

As I posted before:

You need a preamplifier for your microphone. Here are some very helpful tuts for sound:

Bad recorded sound will break the fun.

This was helpful on my other topic, but in the end I dumped the mic/phantom power/preamp setup for a USB microphone Samson C01U Pro and while it records fairly quiet, the quality means it can be amplified without horrid clipping sounds.

Here's me thinking this was a quick question.

I've not got a big budget for this.

In the end, I got myself a Blue Yeti and a pop filter. I'm working on the sound and limiting background noise at the moment. Thankfully I live in an old Victorian house with 18 inch solid walls and double glazing. I'm in a quiet rural area, so I've not got a big problem with background. Using the noise cancelling feature on Audacity I'm getting pretty good results. I'll have to move the old pendulum clock out of the room, or stop it while recording because it's clearly audible in the background. If I record in the late evening, it's virtually silent outside on a calm day.

Maybe the Yeti isn't the best but I think it's good enough until I see if I want to get into modding more after this first effort. I've seen comments on some sites where people say things like "I'd never play a game mod if the author didn't have the decency to use at least $500 worth of sound equipment." Well, I don't really care about that. If those people turn their noses up at my free mod after I've put so much effort into it, they can donate a few hundred dollars to get me better gear!

I think I'll get a product that most people will be happy with. We'll see.

Thanks for all the advice.
