Feanoro
^this. The English language has absolutely nothing to do with it, the game isn't even EXCLUSIVELY released in the English language, whereas the names of things in Skyrim are universal in all the release languages (correct me if I'm wrong). Furthermore, it's a name and the owner of that name (in this case Bethesda) should have every right to decide how it's pronounced, by Sithis! And that should settle the matter as we hear the word being spoken quite often in the game.
jjack339
I accually thought they pronounced it Dwem Myr (close to saying mirror fast) w/ and emphasis on the second syllable in the game.
VincentIcarus
I accually thought they pronounced it Dwem Myr (close to saying mirror fast) w/ and emphasis on the second syllable in the game. Same with my game. They pronounce it more like "Dwim - er" but this is from UESPWiki: The Dwemer (/dweɪ.mɚ/ dway-mer or /dwiː.mɚ/ dwee-mer) were a fabled lost race of Mer hailing from Dwemereth, the region that is now Morrowind. So I guess they're even pronouncing it wrong in their own game but that's Bethesda for you. :wallbash:
nitevision92
Judging by the title, I thought this was about how someone figured out how to pronounce the names of the Dwemer cities.Ah well. Back to trying to pronounce 18 consonants in a row. Edited January 20, 2012 by nitevision92
bpestilence
The voice actors aren't ever a good clue to how anything is pronounced. There are a few times when Dwemer (Dweh-Mer IMO) cities are pronounced in the game, and I am like WTH? There are other words that are confused, as well. In Morrowind I always though "Atronach" was pronounced "at-ro-nock", but then when it was voice-acted in Oblivion it was pronounced "at-ro-natch" by a few characters. Now in Skyrim I have heard it pronounced "at-ro-nock" again!
Tidus44
Tomato (tom - ay - toe) Tomato (tom - at - toe)Tomato (toe - mate - oh)etc., etc. Now - Dwemer Is there a proper pronunciation? No, there isn't; whatever way you want to pronounce it is correct and acceptable. Considering "ghoti" is pronounced as "fish" in the english language - making up rules about how a word "must" be pronounced (especially since it isn't an english word) seems pretty weird. Personally, I pronounce it duh-WHEM-air - but that’s my choice.

It would be way to hard to make a right Pronunciation of a word. for Dwemer i would do Choice A. also on the Wiki for it, its listed as that.
