HeyYou
Great, now explain to me how the two are in any way related. I'll make it easy for you: it simply isn't. It is really just another step we are taking towards a police state run by corporations. From what I can understand of this bill, they'll probably try to control how we spend our money and it will help them if they have easy access to our financial data. In the states, it would all be covered under the commerce clause in the constitution. The government seems to think they can mandate that private citizens spend their money purchasing a product from a private corporation. It's an easy step to taking over everyone's budget, and telling them how and where to spend their money.

It's an easy step to taking over everyone's budget, and telling them how and where to spend their money.Actually, on the greater note, it's a massive invasion of privacy. It basically allows them to get personally identifying snapshots of your web activity every time you use your credit card... Which goes against most vendors policy on the matter. It is not tracking what you actually buy, but what other places you might browse online for "potential" "warning signs". In the sake of "Protecting Children from Pornography". Even if it was something as well aimed as "Protecting Children from Child Pornography", it wouldn't need to do any of this stuff since there are already federal groups who track down these sickos. What this bill is, is a caustic bill that people are damned if it passes, and no law maker would speak against it during an election year for the simple reason that it would be spun against them as "Such-and-such voted against a bill that would keep YOUR kids from having easy access to Pornography. Such-and-such clearly supports giving pornography to YOUR child..." and other crap that works like magic on the ignorant masses who are high in their moral convictions. Deleted1744345User
People of Texas REALLY need to kick this chump out of office.By chump I suppose you are referring to Lamar Smith? He's more than a chump; he's the epitome of modern-day evil. Google an image of him and you'll find some nice Obama-style posters of him. I would have used it as my avatar, but the dimensions would look ugly.
Werne
"Protecting Children from Pornography" That's not the real reason for that, this is :D (it's a bit large so I placed it in a spoiler): http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/groups/1/3/2933/thumb_620x2000/Lamar_smith_sopa.jpg I don't really care much about these bills, nothing is going to change down here in Croatia. I believe we are the only country where you can buy pirated games in a game-shop and no one does anything about it. That's why I either buy games online through Steam or I order used ones from eBay and Njuskalo.hr (I mostly buy through Njuskalo, the games are usually much cheaper that way). Also, here you can buy PS3 modifications (chips, software, etc.) in a Sony repair center . Plus, internet is mostly not monitered over here, the police tends to do something every 10 years and that's only if US or EU request us to take action. So I don't think anything will change for us if those bills pass, I'm not sure is it a good or a bad thing though.

Deleted54170User
Seems to me all the business people want is, is that their children have to learn the meaning of working for it, "The Hard Way!" Now that SOPA and PIPA are on the carpet getting a heated review watch out for the Pincher attack. Because there are more people rising to the Business level who want PROFIT's, not Prophet's. They want people who will buy their warehoused good's and back these SOPA and PIPA kinds of bill's, SOFA dweller's, so the next wave of business tycoons has even a tougher time to get to the top using the Internet. As Newt Gingrich put it, "Make the Internet law's so it Pains hackers so they won't want to do it." Doesn't he mean CRACKER's? I think he meant Cracker's, but his ability to see the future suggests all Hacker's, who are generally just curious people, will become Crackers one day. He want's the slumbering crowd to think that, "No place is safe as long as there are Safe Cracker's out there." Got hair pin I can borrow? How about a electrician's size screw driver? Maybe a hat pin will work better than a hair pin or a lock pick? Hmm? I'm hungry! So! Anyone want to get together for Lunch?
dazzerfong
To be honest, I don't see the big mess of 'invasion of privacy' is all about: after all, every time you visit Google, don't you notice their ads on other sites are actually related to what you search? Nope. Sure don't. Mainly because I never see any ads....... Privacy on the internet is an illusion. That isn't what the various tech companies are whining about though. THEY don't want to be held responsible for content on SOMEONE ELSE'S site. Which is what SOPA, and PIPA would try and do.

That's called a filter bubble, and many search engines have them. There is a way to escape that you know.
SubjectProphet
SOPA will die. That bill won't be passed. Or I stand with Anonymous. Not literally, I'm not the one for "OH MY GOD, HACK THE INTERNET AAAHHHH!!!" kind of stuff. But I would support anyone to bring down SOPA.
