Automatron robots not proper settlers

So... it turns out that the Automatron robots do not count as normal settlers, but rather as companions, and thus they cannot do important jobs like being a merchant, although they can be assigned to do the job (they produce happiness, I think, but they don't have any barter function).

 

This is a problem since my technologist Sole Survivor that I am roleplaying is making robotic technology the center of strategy for the rebuilding of Sanctuary, with most of the work to be conducted by robots.

 

Is there any mod that fix this? I am now super frustrated.

In answer to your question, I'm not sure. What I do know, however, is that the Automatron robots don't produce any happiness - they actually lower it. At least that's what I've read on several different occasions. Some of the robot types in the Robot Home Defence mod, by comparison, will indeed raise happiness.

Well their happiness is capped at 50, to be more precise, so even if they do a job that increases happiness you wont be able to get 100% happiness out of your settlement. Oxhorn suggested having robot only settlements to prevent robots from reducing the effectiveness of human settlements. I suppose there might be a way to mod that out, ideally setting their values to the average of all human settlers somehow, but idk.

The only other idea I came up with is add happiness directly to the automaton in a similar way to the defense addition of Automatron - Weapons System Overhaul. Say +30 Happiness per clank to compensate for the difference between clanks and meatbags.
