Lurcher
So I need a new PC but I'm pretty broke, fortunately I only really play NV and similar spec games so shouldn't be too dificult. I know just about anything can run this game, but I want to know roughly what the minimum required spec would be to play in 1920x1080, maxed out settings (or thereabouts) and with a lot of mods (visual enhancements like EVE, textures, PN, lots of quests, NPCs, gameplay stuff etc, not bothered about ENB) at a decent frame rate. I was looking at core i3 2120 3.3ghz and Nvidia gtx 460. Will this do the job, or can I go even cheaper?
Erik005
I would not get an old dual core cpu, it is hard to get a good socket 1155 motherboard. A pentium G4560 would be a better option.
Guest deleted2630050
Those specs you listed are pretty antiquated and probably going to be tough to find. At least those that haven't been used to death. And what's your max amount of money you intend to spend?

You should not have any problem with those components. You will have to make sure you have an adequate power supply. I currently run FO3 at the highest graphics setting with about 120 mods installed and I am using a GTS 450, an AMD Athlon 64 dual core 2.9GB, 4GB Ram and a 24" monitor at 1920x1080. This is in a Dell Inspiron 531 that I upgraded myself. Edited February 17, 2017 by M48A5
JimboUK
NV is CPU heavy but doesn't use multiple cores properly so speed rather than cores is important, it's also funny with VRAM, avoid something with only 1GB if you want to add a texture pack, even one of the smaller ones. NV is an old game but as with any other game, the more stuff you put in it the higher the req specs become, it can bring an high end PC to its knees with enough stuff put in it. Erik005
The whole 1155 platform is very expensive the 2120 is 65 dollar and a motherboard 90. A pentium g4560 is also 65 dollar but the motherboards are much cheaper, and cheap socket 1151 motherboards have the same features as high end socket 1155 boards. iXenite
This should be more than sufficient for New Vegas. I'm not sure what your budget is, or what things from your old build can be salvaged - so this is assuming an under $500 budget and that you're not reusing any parts. OS is not included, but you can get that for very cheap all over the internet. I will assume you're re-using your peripherals as well. An SSD is pretty nice to have with an open world game like New Vegas, plus, the boot times for your PC will be pretty fast. Note: The storage in this build is fairly small, but you can always add a large HDD later down the road when you need more space. FMod
Never buy old crap unless it's pre-owned and really cheap (like 40% of new price). With your budget, a used PC will be by far the best option, provided you don't get a lemon. Building a PC out of a mix of used and new parts may be an even better option, but it takes considerably more skill than picking a used PC (you can run that one by us here to check it's good).Ideally you'd want a used i3, FX-6300 or better mobo+CPU+RAM package, a used case (readily available for $0), some used storage HDD (generally starting from $5) and a new video card and SSD.
