thedemoninside
That's why there needs to be some benefits to owning a certain amount of real estate per hold. That way everything you are doing has purpose. There could be a tax, but why give the player something and simulate the need to take it away? One option, is to make a weekly cost for your house/houses. That or some other kind of beneficial gold sink could be created. I guess what it boils down to, is I want a reason to spend all my money, because then once I am geared up and have a house, I will still have a reason to pick up loot again. a lot of the fun of this game is grabbing valuable treasure and collecting/selling it. It gets kind of pointless once you already have everything you need Edited January 24, 2012 by thedemoninside
sagitel
or maybe when you own enough you can try for jarlship! i know this may be SO MUCH TO ADD but think how great it be! like when you own a certain amount of houses and shops and you help the ppl in the town you become popular and they choose you as their jarl. I thought about this, but it would have to be only available after the civil war quests, or it would really break them. Plus a jarl in my mind should be in the city as much as possible, an adventurer off to save the world doesn't really work for that kind of job. There had to be something that can be added...some kind of gold sink that makes it all worthwhile. This mod would have to be tiEd to an equally large mod. I'm thinking building your own castle. For instance you could be required to own 25k worth of businesses from each hold before getting a letter of approval from each jarl to build a castle in a large empty space. After choosing features and paying those costs, you could hire people that cost a weekly fee each. Just an idea...I really can't think of a cooler thing to be doing once you are stupid rich. RbtRvltin
I agree with the fact that the games, while having great stories, are ridiculously shallow. There's nothing... deep after you finish the questline. Any of them. Just a bunch of really lame Radiant quests. And once you're rich, you stay rich. Leveled gold and all that. The only money sinks in the game are houses, and I got all those no problem(except Hjerim, that one has problems), I think that a few money overhauls are in order. Also inventory. How do you fit all that stuff into one.. Oh wait, you don't even have a backpack. Neverminding all that, I agree that it wouldn't be too hard to make and that it should be made. :D once the CK's out, I'm game for helpin out. thedemoninside
I'm sure after a little while learning the CK, I will be able to make my business buying mod come true. However doing a castle making mod, to create a gold sink will probably be beyond what I have the time to learn. I envision your character purchasing buildings, and after owning a certain amount of gold value in buildings per city, the jarl in each city gives you a document consenting to the construction of your own hold, that you would become Jarl of. You would have to own for example, 25k worth of properties in every hold and have all those documents in order to begin construction. This then starts a new quest. You will be directed to an empty section of land where a job foreman would be along with some workers. After giving him a decent amount of gold to start construction of the keep, they will go to work and after 1 week, it will be finished. This will serve as a really nice player home. Then after that is complete, you can purchase an alchemy, arcane, and general goods shop seperately. These shops would come with npc's and generate income as well. You will also be able to purchase walls to surround these buildings that would attach to the keep. You could purchase guards that cost a weekly fee, and hire a person to be the guy sitting next to the jarl (I can't think of the title for that person atm) Maybe you can even name one of your followers as being your Thane. There could even be dragon attacks and all that like there is in the main cities. I have lots of ideas swirling around in my head, but I want to avoid making this become impractical. I want there to be lots of end-game goodness to be had once you are rich and bored. Edited January 25, 2012 by thedemoninside
HatterMaster
Just my little input here, but perhaps once you own a certain amount of shops in a hold, you receive a formal letter declaring you the representative of the merchants union in that hold entitling you to a 10% honorary discount in that hold and once you are the representative for all nine holds you become the head of the merchants union of Skyrim and receive a 15% discount throughout Skyrim. Just thought it would a relatively easy and practical way to implement it, since it needs no voices, no building and no new items, just scripted letters, at most the letters would have a unique border motif or seal at the end of the letter. Jeffman12
And I'm pretty sure Belathor wouldn't be too happy working for anyone other than himself. He'd probably charge some exorbitant amount of gold to buy his shop, basically allowing him to leave Skyrim and retire early. The player would either have to hire a new shopkeeper themselves. At least, realistically. Maybe they could hire a headhunter to look for an NPC to fill the position. Edited January 25, 2012 by Jeffman12

Maybe the documents that the Jarls give you instead have to be bought, and they agree to build a section of the new fort. After you have all of the documents then enter furnisher as per usual properties. "A melon in the lounge? (5000 Gold)" ^^. And it would be great to see the different stages of construction as I get more and more ridiculously rich and powerful. This would be an incredible mod, but an awful lot of work. I'm sure if you asked for some help once the CK comes out there would be lots of willing volunteers. Edit: As a footnote, I am no modder but if there was any help needed in voicing or writing then let me know. That's the thing, I could make the first part of the mod with no voice acting at all, besides adding in a box and sign to purchase the shop through, there is some scripting and no voice work at all. The other part though, I can help where I can. I don't do voice work though. Maybe in a small section...just to immortalize myself in the mod somewhere if it actually became something big. thedemoninside
edited the first post to include the ideas in previous posts. Soon I will edit it to be a better formatted bulleted list that outlines the full scope if the mod. Keep the ideas coming!
