Wanna have a Remover mod....

Hi, im trying to run fallout 4 on my very own gpd win! think of it as a miniature pc the size and shape of a 3ds with an intel atom chip. now for the most part, fallout 4 is running pretty freaking well, especially for the extremely limited hardware its running on (using a personal very low spec ini file and a texture mod that hugely reduce's texture quality) however, in the more intense area's of the game, my frame rate still drops below 30... so what i think would actually make this surprisingly playable on such a low end system is getting rid of "useless" artifact's in the game, things that take up my processor but are only there as decoration, im talking things such as the bushes the big tree's, even car's!. the ini tweak's im using already get rid of procedurally generated grass but there are still bushals that remain clogging up my cpu, and the cars and other high poly object's in the game do it too. so what im asking is if someone out there could make a mod removing specific things from the game so i can get better fps. (keep in mind i am running this on a very low end pc, and if your curious as to the reason : extreme portability! i can bring fallout 4 practically anywhere now! )

Edit: and to add onto my post im already using the insignificant object remover however that removes object's you'll never see or care about, im talking about objects that you can see and might miss while gone, though take up a high poly count and without them the game preformance will sing!

@oileme

you have very much intrigued me; that sounds awesome!

I'm very interested in 'low-end' optimisation and how folks are able to get stuff running on different systems.

I'm also amazed at how people can make awesome computers fit into different cases hehe.

custom interfaces and peripherals, all kinds of cool stuff.

if true... that sounds like "Ben Heck's most awesome retro ultra gameboy"

or "fallout ception - playing fallout 4 on a working PipBoy".

if you could link us to the setup you're using, or feel free to share that on bethnet or TWiT (this week in tech) etc

I'm curious as to how you got it all together hehe.

how does it look compressed onto the ratio of the screen you're using?

is your portable device able to send visual to an overhead projector potentially?

(I have seen some really sophisticated FO4VR stuff, what the VR player sees is then holo-projected onto a wall in the VR room)

I would be curious how it does this natively too.

do you get a long run-time? does it 'blue screen of death' often? lockup or 'meltdown imminent' screen?

to your awesome question;

If you're already using the low-res mods, and it's chugging...

then, it might be in need of a more substantial overhaul for the game.

there was a low end textures mod, and a scrap everything mod which gets rid of non-vital stuff.

the only other thing you can do, apart from pre-combining as much as possible in FO4GECK and FO4Edit etc,

is try and have loading screens or something that will clear the memory stack.

If you game is trying to cram more to your screen, that can be an easy ~11% load issue there, according to TWiT forum discussion on this kinda stuff.

maybe we can change how the game loads cells, so that you only go to certain cells per playthrough?

maybe some features can be achieved via .swf and .gif "sprites" rather than actually simulated or pre-batched.

and you'd want pre-cull or pre-combined meshes so as to allow you to make as complex a settlement as you like it.

I would definitely like to see more of low-end optimization projects, as they're awesome stuff!

some were talking at TWiT and opencog, about having more homeomorphic approaches to the gamestates.

|it's still a super-set thing though, because of all the combinations

n^X, nCr and nPr of all the floating point variables in the game...|

turning to another perspective...

have you considered a cloud-computing/distributed network solution?

your custom portable PC device talks to your encrypted phone, which then talks to the internet, which is running your FO4 game...

maybe something similar could let you play your game on your low-end device from a high end network?

(this is big-picture pie in the sky solution style, so as we could also get FO4 to be multiplayer via distributed hot-sharing or integrating into a shared instance of the game... without a full blown overhaul).

---

I look forward to hearing more about this awesome thread,

thanks again for sharing oileme!

If someone makes this please also make a "stripped down as much as we possibly could" mod meaning nothing is too important to get rid of or turn off.

I'd love to see F04 running on something like a compute stick or a windows 95 laptop.

So like all cars, rocks, non-essential static objects, birds, turn off water rendering, no weather, lowest possible resolution textures, No weapon view model ext...

@montky im not actually using a device i made :) im using this

http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_364503.html?vip=763131&gclid=Cj0KEQiA88TFBRDYrOPKuvfY2pIBEiQA97Z8MWlAwkOprxbxSD7Ms3gKS4nXBF116CGsodHQwxHibkUaAtBU8P8HAQ

think of it as a windows tablet built in the form factor of a ds :) , though going back to how you mentioned ben heck, i actually did try and make my own pseudo one of these using a 5.5 inch touch screen and a chinese version of the intel compute stick, didn't turn out to well though as i didn't plan out how to power it at all and still haven't figured it out XD
to address everything else. the device im using (the gpd win in the link) has a mini hdmi port on it so potentially one could plug a mini hdmi to hdmi cord from it into a projector and use it that way, it doesn't actually look that compressed or bad to be honest despite the insane tweaks (though the reason it doesn't look that bad is because its on a 5.5 inch screen) though if the image were blown up on the big screen/a giant projector screen it would probably lose alot of clarity :)
no blue screen of death yet and iv'e played past freeing valentine averageing around 30 frames but often dropping to around 25 or even under in extreme cases :)
can you send me the fo4 vr thing that sounds wicked!!!
if im being honest i didn't get alot of the stuff you said on answering my question as to how to make it run better, though im interested in whatever you have to send me on the topics you mentioned so i can learn more :)
and i would but thaaat would eat up my 3g as i can't think of any other way to have it wirelessly streamed to my mini pc when im away from home XD and i don't exactly get much 3g to begin with, though hooking it through the internet would be nice i don't always have access to the internet. having a shared instance of fallout 4 with multiple people being able to join in and play..... sounds like an extremely hard mod to make but oh do i want multiplayer fallout 4!!!

@BlahBlahDEEBlahBlah : do you know what the actual setting in the ini file was called? was it the ugrids setting? haven't touched that one yet

@Aishalove : Same dude same! i've got it running extremely low already (low resolution, low resolution textures, insignificant object remover, ini tweaks etc) but it still isin't quite at that level :)
