SSE CTD on Save After Hours of Gameplay

I think I may have found a mod causing this, back when I played SSE the first time on PC I ported Burn Freeze Shock Effect to SE myself, it was in april 2017 I think, very recently I started getting a crash issue when using the flame spell for too long on the same enemy, since it started happening after I installed hunterborn I thought there was an incompatibility between the 2 mods, so I disabled BFS Effect but I forgot to use the MCM menu for uninstallation, and when I loaded my save after doing so, the game was crashing upon saving

I then reactivated BFS Effect, no more crashing, I uninstalled it using MCM and it was all good

That said I'm still having this crash with the flame spell

Noooo... My brand new game with a max of 48,000 strings, half the scripts, fewer mods (all played before) froze in save 20. I haven't even reached Riverwood.

What IS it with this save freezing??? :pinch:

My save was 3 hours!!!

Anyhow, I have made a discovery: the mod (which I use) PC Headtracking could well be the cause of my problems. After more Googling this issue I found comments on the mod and checked the bug reports in the mod.

It turns out the mod's "Speaker Detection" scripts can sometimes be miscoded(?) by SKSE64 during save, and this causes SKSE to freeze, trying to process the scripts. One game save freeze.

It's a SKSE64 issue, and the SKSE team have been made aware.

Some users report that switching off the Speaker Detection element in the mod's MCM (swapping it to Crosshair only detection) works for them.

I have tried this, and played a 6 hour stretch yesterday without any freezes.

This experience kind of fits: because my save game freezes were usually when surrounded by NPCs and followers.

Hope this helps! I'll report back after more play.

UPDATE - still going strong! Yay!

UPDATE FINAL 375 saves and still flowing perfectly. Not one freeze. I have my answer.

BlueGunk what's your modlist? And how many hours in is your save 20?

Makes sense! I'm glad you found the issue.

I am not getting any CTDs while saving UNLESS --- I clear out Kollskeggr Mine for Pavo (misc. quest given near Markarth Stables).

As soon as I kill the Forsworn Briarheart and the quest updates to ''Tell Pavo you have cleared the mine'' AND I leave the mine, I can't save.

(I messed around the mine before entering and doing the quest but NEVER had any CTDs on saving, it must be something that happens after leaving the mine with quest having updated.)

I can't figure out the exact pattern here but I know that it is either a coincidence/timing issue or the Kollskeggr mine quest triggers something the game can't handle.

Maybe it's the Blood-Kin thingy. Because an Orc named Gro-Shragkh (never NOT gonna misstype this guy's name) who works near Pavo gives Dragonborn The Blood-Kin, after aforementioned misc quest.

Oh and I have 290 (249 plugin) mods but my game is stable AF. So don't..!

Edit: I tried fast travelling to a place that is the most distant from Kollskeggr Mine, waited 24 hours, slept a while, talked to some people and went into a Indoor place to make a save:

Surprise! I had CTD...

Edit2:

As long as I don't enter or get too close to the mine my game doesn't CTD. If I enter the mine, no matter where I go, what I do, how much time it passes, the game CTDs on saving. Weird.

So I skipped that stage of the quest with console commands and jumped right to speaking Pavo on a save that I never entered Kolskeggr Mine. He thanked me and gave my reward, also the Orc provided me Blood-Kin. Dialogues are correct, everything in order.

Well except there is an unique item in that mine from Unique Treasures mod  Guess I have to place it's replice on my inventory

Bottomline, if anyone has any idea to make out of this situation are welcome OR if this comment helps anybody, I would be glad.

EDIT FFS:

Nope, still getting CTD. At this point I am not sure if it is related to anything I said above.

Only thing I can say for sure is that I can save once, I can save twice and the third one is CTD. Almost as if like my PC can't carry anymore after a couple of saves. But I've seen save numbers above 9000 on my previous run, had almost the same mods in that too. This one is barely a baby, only 1200 saves. This issue happened on that save too but I remember solving it and keep playing for another 5000-6000 save, except I don't remember how I solved it.

So, I don't know, spent some 8-9 hours on this subject but no luck.

Could be. Do you have any mods that might affect that? Or perhaps mess with the Briarheart meshes? I've had a few armor mods in the past cause all of my Briarhearts to be bugged, can't remember which ones off the top of my head.

Sorry mate, I edited the post. The problem is bigger than this.

I have been having a seemingly identical issue, it happened ever since I rolled back from the new SE update. It seems to be retroactive for some reason affecting all files with SkyUI installed, which makes little sense if it's a script issue. I do, however use Warzones 2015 which is relativly script heavy, and my build relies on the ritual stone to revive large amounts of enemies to fight for me, so guess that would make sense. I tried re-updating to the newset version, and load the save both with and without SkyUI to no avail.

I'm not really sure if it's a coincidence that this happened right after rolling back from yesterday's(3rd of April 2018) update. It happened on my 97th save, approx. 120 hours of playtime. Since it seemingly only affects the saves I made after installing SkyUI, I would assume cleaning the saves of any SkyUI data would help. Problem is, I'm not really sure how one goes about doing that though. Hope it helps.

Edit:

It is worth mentioning though, my charcater recently died in apocrypha which means he respawns where he was before reading the black book(doesn't actually kill you), as I recall it from yesterday, I tried reading the book again, and my game froze, the bug happened ever since.

Edit2:

So I reinstalled SkyUI and now I got some Juicy errors:

I finally found a fix for my case(though I think this fix only works for my case, I didn't see SkyUI in your load order); I've been noticing that whenever I ran the game SkyUI was automatically disabled, so I re-installed it through NMM and just didn't touch the load order at all. Guess what, it worked. I can finally save.
