SSE CTD on Save After Hours of Gameplay

Having this same issue. Second Character to have this problem, almost at the exact same place as well. Just got to the portal at skuldafn, tried to quicksave and crashed. tried to make a new save and crashed. crashed upon moving into sovengarde portal (after/during loading screen, so assuming it's autosave that time.) Looking at resaver I have 28 active scripts and 112k script instances. Tried cleaning via the resaver instructions and it returned w/ 0 orphaned scripts.

 

Going to try uninstalling Diverse Dragons since it seems like That's the only esp I have in common with anyone on this thread.

 

Edit: Well, was able to get into Sovengarde, and then it crashed again randomly. I suppose something else is a problem now that There aren't and dragon scripts and Alduin is flying around.

Hi Volbrand,

 

Do you have Convenient Horses installed? Your problem sounds a lot like Zoolamon2's post #55. Also, did resaver come up with any undefined elements, and did you try cleaning those? I've got 32 active scripts running in my currently stable (hopefully?) game, and 241k script instances, so it might be something specific. Do you have an earlier save than the one you cleaned? That seemed to work for Zoolamon2.

I have reinstalled my skyrim and tried to reinstall most of my mods a couple of times now. I got rid of a lot of mods that I thought could be a problem. The mods that I got rid of were script heavy. I have spent a ton of time searching for answers, but I cannot really find anyone that is having the problem that I am having, or if they do, their solutions do not work for me.

 

My game will freeze when I save and not be able to respond. It does not happen all the time, and it does not happen in the same spots. I thought at first it could be something to do with trying to save in the middle of conversations or quests scripts, but it sometimes will happen when I am just standing still with nothing going on around me. It happens on hard saves and quicksaves. I have made multiple characters and experience the same problem on all of them. Whenever this problem happens, the previous few saves before the one that crashes my game do not actually save. They do not appear as a file in my saves folder and itâs like I never saved in the first place. I have taken a look at the papyrus logs to maybe find a possible fix. I understand that those are not guarenteed to help, but I tried anyway and could not reach any conclusion with that.

I am not super experienced with making the perfect modlist or mod setup. I usually just mod until crashing and do not really try too much to fix things because I know that I have installed way too much. This time around I am just really feeling skyrim and I really want to play, but I simply cannot get this problem to go away with the mods I have installed. I understand that my modlist is probably ugly and I most likely have some glaring problems, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your problem doesn't quite sound like the one in this thread, so I don't think that the fix provided will help. That being said, a few things that might:

 

1. I did a quick glance through your modlist, and it looks like you have a few mods that require SKSE64. First of all, these mods won't run properly without it, so if you don't have it, it could be the source of your issues. Second, even if you do have it, SKSE64 is in alpha, and is thus unreliable, so that it still might be the source of your issues.

2. Do you use LOOT? Making sure that you have a good mod order is important.

I too have experienced this problem for a while now. It happened even before I modded SE and continued to persist as I added them, with the same frequency but at random times. Sometimes the game will CTD when I open the map, or cast a spell, or save. Sometimes it will crash when I enter a new cell. It's completely random.

 

I use loot to organise my mods in addition to my own tweaks. I'm aware that I use SKSE and script heavy mods, but the game has been this way even before using them and has not gotten any worse after adding such mods.

Any help would be appreciated. It isn't breaking enough to ruin my experience, as the CTD often happens 4-6 hours of constant play, which is a fair trade in my opinion for relative stability, but eliminating it would be nice.

I have SKSE64 and I have used LOOT. I have used fallrim tools as well. Could I just have to many active scripts? Too many mods with a lot of scripts? If so, what would be the best to get rid of? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Swirlyfizz, it sounds like you are dealing with something entirely different. The point of this thread is a persistent, can't get past it crash when saving only. Yours was crashing before modding? And when casting spells and opening the map? I doubt that has anything to do with scripts, and sounds more like problems with your .ini file or even hardware incompatibility. Until your vanilla SSE is stable, I can't even begin to offer any advice. Have you tried verifying your game cache?

True, but you never know which combination of factors might set something off. Looking through your modlist, I don't see any notorious bad actors. If you're taking a shot in the dark at which mods to remove, I would start with the ones that have a built in level of uncertainty.

 

Did you follow FNIS instructions per the documentation each time you installed a FNIS-dependent mod?
