LE Skiing mod

So, Skyrim reminds me a lot of Norway. But why didn't they add skis? Just think how awssome it would be going through the world on skis almost as fast as sprinting. Also being able to sprint on your skis using stamina.. Also misc skis on walls inside houses. Some good modders might do it, as they made motorcycles for Fallout. Another great thing would be slaloming. Also having hide gloves and jackets while skiing. The people on Reddit loved the idea. What do you think? Sorry for my English I'm Norwegian-

Because Skyrim isn't all mountain, and you'd end uping having problems when a dragon attacked.

Also the fact it's not lore friendly.

 

Now, the models and all are easy stuff, but scripting and animation is something different alltogether. Not many around here would have the time, nor skills, to be able to make skiing fluid.

I'd recommend you start gathering photos and try again with a little more depth to it. Stuff like:

 

Also being able to sprint on your skis using stamina..

 

Also misc skis on walls inside houses.

 

Also having hide gloves and jackets while skiing.

 

Won't really cut it. What you should do:

 

1) Gather photos and reference. Alternatively draw your self. The more you do, the less we must do --> the bigger chance somebody will do it.

2) Get some more solid ideas. "also" won't cut it. It seem like you got new ideas as you wrote this. What do you need? What models? What functions? Why?

3) Think functions. Why would people go skiing when they could sprint? Is there a benefit? How do you get it? Are there perks invovled?

4) Think solutions. You now have a plan of what and how. Spend some time to think how this can be done. Talk to some modders, get an idea. People answer question easier than they do requests.

5) Lastly, and perhaps the most outrageous for the average guy here: Learn yourself. The models you ask for is easily made. Perhaps try to script?

 

Basically, you need something more solid. Now it is just half arsed together and you hope some modder comes along and helps you. As of now I can count about 5 people, exluding myself, that can/would do these models. Chances are none will take notice without some kind of interest.

Consider we learn English from 3rd grade and up, that's not really a excuse. Allthough it seem fine, exept the overuse of the word "also".

 

Build on your idea, and you might get your skis soon enough!

@Math Well, it would be great with skis hanging on walls. The models I'm thinking about is wooden skis, poles and hide jackets. The reason for that is the ancient vikings used hide jackets and made their skis out of wood. The functions would probably be: Slalom skis that are bigger than the other, and goes much faster down hills. The backside is that they're almost useless in the griund. Then there would be cross-country skis that are much faster on the ground and a little slow and hard to control downhill. If you get ski poles, the skis go a little faster.

The benefit would be: Use less stamina and go faster than on foot. If it is possible to make a skill tree, that would be great too. The perks could make skis go faster, use up less stamina, etc.

I might be able to mesh a little bit. Perhaps wearing the skis as boots? Also some skis hanging on walls in Jorrvaskr, inns, dragonsreach and maybe other places it fits.

just thought of something similar myself after watching rag doll corpses slide down hill, what about having the ability to sit, lay down or be in stealth mode position and atatch yourself to a shield and slide down hill like the escape scene in the film Willow. you could even shape the mountains a bit to make them more suitable.

skiing in skyrim would be fun , there are a lot of mountains and snow all over . how hilarious that would be , rob someones house and ski away :D

Hey! I was just thinking about how it would be with ski's in Skyrim and this discussion popped up. I want to bring this discussion back to life, beacause it would be epic! As Crazykiller i am norwegien and Skyrim reminds me of Norway.

Not lore friendly? bulls***. Skis and sleds have been around since before recorded history. Whoever says it isn't lore-friendly needs to actually consider it for a minute. If anything, Skyrim doesn't fit the "lore" of what simple human beings are capable of.

Hi Skying fans!

 

I actually started to work on this... its is going to take long and i will need help, as this is my first skyrim moding attempt, but today i had very promissing physics tests and it was quite a fun to slide down the hills with my skies lether boots....

 

Im currently working on SKSE plugin which adds a sliding physics to player, Player physics - Acceleration - Friction - Smooth movement by Altimor, witch is actually pretty decent as is for the job. My goal is to dynamicaly change friction and others, depending on equip and material, boots / skies, (this part is actualy working), add vintage wooden skies model as feet equip, and replace some anims.

 

Im hopping someone can supplie my with the models and anims :)
