  1. 1. How has 1.4 affected you Mr. Dovahkiin?

    • Quite swimmingly to be frank.
    • Why, I see no difference, my good man.
    • Alas, I am in a world of pain.

Alright so, I've have just received the belated-christmas gift of realizing my native skyrim world has overnight become a hideous and spiteful shell of its former self. Although my google research has deduced that a number of you have received isolated problems from the patch, I've taken such a lion's share of them, I figured it warranted its own thread establishing me as the king and martyr of patch 1.4's lesser-known victims.

I have opened my account here to do just that, and to describe my whiny, dejected tale.

Again, my crack research team has concluded--through hours of research on bing and askjeeves plugging in the terms "my skyrim as broked now cuz 1.4. how fixes?"--that the recent patch was very much sort of hit-or-miss: 50% of people are stoked as the dickens on it and getting no problem; the other 50% are spiraling into deep, dark adventure-withdrawals that no amount of after-school LARPing can overcome. I am of course a sniveling victim of the latter. However, whereas many who saw problems with the patch were mod-users with incompatibilites, I had not yet downloaded any mods in the hopes of outlasting any of the initial patch problems that come with them. Mods or not, I was not immune.

My problems began last night or so when I had tuned-in and dropped out into skyrim, so-to-speak, to continue my adventures as the lot of you have done, with the horkers and the knee-arrows and all that business. Little did I know that the new patch had become a surreptitious stowaway while I was away, sneaking in through steam sometime earlier. The performance issues however--severe stuttering in first-person only-- caused me to quickly find out the culprit. My travels then were able to reveal the extent of the weaselly devil's crimes.

Although the stuttering was strange, I attributed this to some stupid mental excuse such as "new patch stage-fright" or more-likely, gremlins. And so I just stuttered and seized my way down into Ustengrav where I learned that I also had crazzzzy scripting errors. None of the chain pulls, handles, switches, word walls or puzzles would activate. I restarted my machine and whatnot, loaded different saves but it was all the same. I went to different caves and noticed that while certain switches worked, others still didn't. Also dragons wouldn't deteriorate and cough up souls and several of the quests I had began prior to the patch couldn't be finished.

After noticing some stat changes, I looked in my magic tab to see that all my active effects were gone! (I noticed someone else had this problem on the forums and didn't know what caused it. Hopefully he reads this.)

Anyways, I was running 1.3 amazingly well. 1.4 rolled around without me even knowing, secretly-installed by our Orwellian Steam overlord (even though I had declined from auto-updates), and positively wrecked me, leaving me bloody and crying like that bully-kid in A Christmas Story.

I'm sure this a testament to my impatience and lack of social life, seeing as how I've already joined a forum to complain about my video game, but hey, I had s*** to do Skyrim. It turns how I'm something called the dragonborn. Pretty big deal.

Anyhoo, hope I can find other downtrodden folk who share my disdain and with whom I can sit in circles singing protest songs until our worlds have been righted. And don't mistake the pointless verbosity and dumb references for apathy. I'm pretty pissed.

Have you tried the usual? Delete the Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini in the documents? And verify integrity of game cache? And defragment cache files? And if that doesn't work maybe uninstall/reinstall Skyrim. I can't tell you anything more. I mean you said you don't have any mods right? So wtf went wrong?

You can't really say 50% of people are having problems based on a search for those with problems. Most people who don't have issues or don't even notice an update will never be heard from. I kind of suspect that if it was that much of problem, this forum would be overloaded. Instead, I think I can count on one hand the number of posters with issues in the last few days that might or might not be related to the patch.

I've mods and more mods. I also use ENB. All my config files are tweaked. The latest patch only helped me so far as I can tell. Smoother framerates and maybe even shorter load times.

I've only had 1 CTD so far since I've updated to 1.4 and it was because I was trying to run too many programs at once. So my 1 CTD in 12 hours is user-error. That's a heck of a lot better than my 1-2 per hour for no reason.

I may be the only person playing Skyrim who, after more than 100 hours of play, had effectively no issues with the unpatched game. (Ok, so there was that glitch with the "no one escapes Cidhna Mine" quest, but nothing that would keep me from obsessively robbing every person in Skyrim for hours and hours at a time.) However, since the patch, i cant seem to play for more than 20 minutes at a time without a CTD. It's made the game almost unplayable, and i'm quite pissed.

I've been playing 20-30 hours a week since Christmas no problem. I tried the 1.4 patch beta a week or so ago and started CTDing all over the place and ended up removing it two days before it was released as "official" (unaware that is *was* about to be "official"). I wish there were a way to try the patch and then roll-back if necessary (like the beta was) since I think it may be an SKSE issue. In the next day or two, I'll disable all mods and let the 1.4 update happen and then start adding mods back in one by one.

I'm running about twenty mods, including ENB, and I've had no problems so far with 1.4.

Script Dragon is still broken for some reason though, and has been forever for me.

I was being slightly hyperbolic for satirical purposes. I apologize most humbly Dear mr. thesapien. Anyways, I've ran the gambit on attempts to fix it. Reinstalled, deleted ini's. All of it. I'm assuming something happened to corrupt my save file and because I'm stupid, I kept only one. All of the autosaves are also messed up.

Oh bother, looks like its the waiting game for me then. Lord knows I'm not about to start another character after all the hours I chose to journey through skyrim rather than going out.
