Game completely freezes for long amount of time when entering areas.

I've had Fallout 4 since it came out. I never really had this freezing problem until a few months ago, but I didn't really mind since I didn't play the game very often anyway. Recently I got into the game again but it was very frustrating to play due to a constant problem. Basically, whenever I entered an area like Diamond City or any new quest location, my game froze for a long period of time. The video in the YouTube link is a best case scenario and sometimes I had to wait for up to 5 minutes for the game to continue as normal. I browsed some other unanswered threads on the Steam forum and one user suggested that the game freezes because it's loading the next area. I don't think this is the case for me since I didn't always have this problem and my specs are above par (GTX 1070, i7 4790, 16GB ram). The mods could be the problem, but that still seems unlikely since most, if not all of my mods are workshop or clothing related and don't change how many items you need to load to get into the next area. I run the game on an HDD, but as I said, the game used to run fine so I'm not sure why it suddenly has these problems. Loading screens are also incredibly slow and much worse than they used to be.

For the loading screens you could use Load Accelerator by hippo (it boosts fps on loading screens but also the gpu usage)

Steam or Bethesda recently did an update of some kind that really was not announced and since then I have noticed long load times also. Not exactly sure what the update was since I have not been able to find anything about it and also since it didn't screw me over with FO4SE lol

 

I've had times where it literally took almost a minute and a half ( 83 seconds, timed using a stop watch :tongue: ) just to go into a building since that update was made, before then, maybe 15 seconds, shrug

 

EDIT: I took a closer look at your load order and noticed you have no Bashed OR merged patch - THAT in of itself is the most likely reason why your lagging / locking up. Follow both my guides and let me know if you need more help :)

Hi

 

It looks like your rig is choking on the DLCUltraHighResolution pack.

 

My 4k rig has 6gb vram & even though I am only using 5.5gbs with the pack installed the game is not smooth.

 

On my GTX 1080 rig the DLCUltraHighResolution pack runs fine even with less CPU(i7 2600k).

 

As far as I am concerned Bethesda got it right with the specks for the pack(1080 0r better).

I would also suggest trying to tweak your load order. This made a big difference for me when I did it recently. :smile:
