Skyrim Mods Adapted for Steamworks?

Good people of the Nexus Forums!

The modders here are amazing and the mods fantastic. Need I say more than that? Some of the mods found in the Nexus are truly astonishing but some can be a hassle to install. I was wondering if the community modders were considering in converting and adapting all their old mods from the Nexus to the new Steamworks platform or are you just going to abandon them? It'd be a damn shame to let them all go to waste, as I think Steamworks is going to make the Nexus obsolete in it's much smoother, easier and more convenient approach to applying mods and even keeping them up to date. Since you could probably reach a much bigger audience on Steam, I don't see a reason *not* to upload all the files to Steam. Again, big fan of all the great dudes and dudettes out there doing truly amazing work! Forgive my ignorance if it's too hard/easy task to ask for, my knowledge on the design aspect of mods is close to none. Anyways, keep up the great work, I really can't wait to see what more you guys will make! I'm interested in hearing (well reading really) your opinions, plans etc!

Ooooh boy. I hope you're wearing your helmet of flame resistance.

My first thought.

I believe some authors will upload their mods on Steam Workshop and some won't. I definately won't, this community earned my respect and I intent to stick to it. Steam on the other hand earned a slap with a wet smelly sock, downloading updates when I don't want them .

as there are many that hates steam there wil be many that will ignore steam workshop just because is from steam. many will shurly use them both some wil use just nexus or just workshoop so you must be preepared to go thru them both. but i must disagree with you that some are dificult because the way it is now it is just copy and paste into right folder so even my 8 year old brother could do that with help from a monkey.

Why the hate towards Steam? :S Yeah sure, the platform might not be perfect but what in life is? I must've missed the trend where it's hip to hate Valve's Steam digital distribution network. Is it a hipster opinion or some kind of vendetta against Valve for their inability to count to the number three or what is going on? But ok, fair enough, I don't want to shove any opinion down people's throats, I was merely curious about the modders stance and I guess a vague answer about Steam and the inconvenience of it updating your mods for you (:S ?? ) will have to suffice. Shame, a bunch of awesome mods that the players will miss out!

And I'm glad that modding is easy for some of you but keep in mind that when it comes to the lowest common denominator, it might not be a breeze for him. Quite the contrary, I know from experience that some mods are a *censored* to install. God forbid the specific mod is f***ed up with ultimately ends f***ing up my save. I feel like Steams way is going to be, not only easy, but super convenient and without any of the fuss that might accompany with manual modding. Which is positive, right? I for one appreciate the Steam integration since when you have over 20 mods that you want to install (like I have) it's kinda annoying and a hassle to do install them all. And if I want to uninstall them, I'm f***ed unless I have 3 hours to spare. Which I don't, University is a *censored* at the moment :( But alright, cheers for the feedback and hopefully some of you will get over your stubbornness and share your fantastic mods with the rest of us lowlife degenerates. Now I gotta find me a monkey to help me install some new mods.

It simply hate steam for the simple fact of have to require it to play a game. I Dont want to be online just to start a game.

Sure it is great, has offers, games etc. but i prefer a hard copy anyday and I decide what patches to install from the game developer's website itself and NOT by a 3rd party invasive tool that Steam has been made out to but but I cant help using it for the sheer fact on how excellent Skyrim is made.

I play few games and not a console owner of anykind except an old dusty Ps2 I no longer play.

I put up with Steam to play Skyrim and NV but thats about it.

In regards to mods, I install them manually always. Takes more time but i know more or less exactly where they are placed.

People say change hurts but is nesessary, but the old system is near perfection and I certainly will not be using Steam's "pretender"

The Nexus was here first.

Let me see if I understood. Are you asking the authors which for some reason did not pack the mod so it can be easily installed (be for just packing it correctly, or don't having choices to be made or having a script allowing the choice) to do it now just for the sake of Steam Workshop?

Man I hope SW having at least the means of installing more than very simple mods (say with at most the esp and... maybe /textures and /meshes folder).

What is clear to me is most of you with these questions and propositions are not even aware the real problem is not at installing the mods actually (except for real noobs which will never learn, the newbies may have difficulty a few times but soon become masters in the game's folder structure), the problem is when mods "conflicts" one with another. such conflicts aren't always of the kind that simply overlaps or overwrites files from the other.

Sometimes two mods do different things in their bulk but let's say they edit properties of one same object, deciding which properties are to prevail is already something that need human recognition and sometimes changing the load order is enough to get an acceptable compromise (not always but often enough).

Now imagine those same two mods edit two different items and you want modA to have it's changes on ObjectA to prevail over the changes from modB but want the changes from modB to prevail for objectB, can you notice how load order alone is not enough to solve this problem? can you see it is already far from the click and play promise of Steam Workshop?

PS: Suddenly I want to hear "Sentence" music from Era and meditate in it's meanings.
