baksases
Does anyone know, where did the idea of the Daedric Princes come? What tale or else got this the game-makers?

baksases
Thank You. But my problem is that it isn't say anything about how the Bethesda team created them... or it is known by nobody?
chanchan05
Maybe its just me or I don't understand you clearly. You want to know how Bethesda created the idea of Daedra? They were there from the start right? From the very beginning of the lore of Elder Scrolls. Its like your asking how Tolkein got the idea of Sauron? Is that what you mean? baksases
Yes, it is. I think (it could be bulls***, but I think), the creators get the idea... from somewhere. Why 16? Well, it have to mean something... for example 4x4, and the 4 is the number of the world, am I right? In my opinion somebody read or heard something, a tale or a folk or something like this, and it begins the idea in his head. And it is a very good example with Tolkien and Sauron, because he can be identify many characters in the mythology of the North. So yes, it is my question. Lachdonin
Yes, it is. I think (it could be bulls***, but I think), the creators get the idea... from somewhere. Why 16? Well, it have to mean something... for example 4x4, and the 4 is the number of the world, am I right? And it is a very good example with Tolkien and Sauron, because he can be identify many characters in the mythology of the North. So yes, it is my question. In the TES universe, 4 is the number of Oblivion. Which is why, i've heard it argued, that neither the Dragonborn nor the Heroes of the Dragon War could defeat Alduin. He is a child of Mundus (3) and in order to defeat him you have to possess a higher value. By teaming up with the Heroes of the Dragon War, you acheive the number of Oblivion (4) and thus can trump Mundus. Numerology isn't something i tend to understand, however, so i don't really see the arguement... Especially since each of the aformentioned heroes is also a child of Mundus, and thus would be numbered 3.... Anywho, the description of the Daedric Princes as being pure expressions of an idea, concept, emotion etc, and their chaotic nature, implies a Warhammer root. They are, essentially, less evil Chaos Gods with more clearly defined personalities. Can't tell you where they got the 16 from, but if you read about the Chaos Gods you'll definately see the similarities, and the Chaos Gods are an older concept. Even then, Chaos has its roots in Lovecraft, who in turn, so he claimed, got his ideas from nightmares.
