Help! I have CTD's in Skyrim Special Edition with Mods!

My game crashes to my desktop (CTD) from time to time. Sometimes it crashes upon sleeping or waiting, other times because of fast traveling, sometimes also upon death and sometimes because of wandering around in the wild. The cause of it is mostly different each and every time. It's indeed very frustrating. Sometimes i can play for 5 hours straight without a single crash, and sometimes it crashes after 5 minutes. I've sorted all my mods with LOOT multiple times. I already have all compatibility patches, and i have also cleaned my savegame with ReSaver for Special Editon. Hopefully some of you can help me out!

Thanks in advance.

Enable the following in Skyrim.ini

[Papyrus]

fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=2000

bEnableLogging=1

bEnableTrace=1

bLoadDebugInformation=1

bEnableProfiling=1

Play as usual. Then, after you CTD, you should find a Logs folder in the same directory where your Syrim.ini file is. Open that file with Notepad++, and see what the last error was before the crash (it's a VM Freezing message).

I don't know if you have ever solved this. After days of almost constant CTD's sometimes as soon as a save loaded, usually five to 20 seconds in, and occasionally A whole twenty minutes of game play I found the solution at least for me, disable the unofficial patch and see if your problem goes away. I happened to notice on multiple threads about CTD's the one common thread "the unofficial patch" disabled it and had a solid three hours of game play with out a hitch. including waiting, fast traveling and sleeping. Hope it works for you.

also make sure every mod your using has either been made for SE or has been properly ported. a few of those caused me problems early on.

Disabling the USSE patch is a patently bad idea. That patch contains stability patches that clean up a lot of the Bethesda crap left behind in the Update and dlc esms. And when you disable it, other mods that depend on it, and a lot of them do, will either not function or function improperly, and can cause damage to scripts. Moreover, that lack of USSE presence in a save file can cause the save file to corrupt when you have already made a save with the USSE patch present.

Do NOT disable the USSE patch. If you're having random CTDs and there's no rhyme or reason, it's most likely a VRAM or CPU issue. Download and use Skyrim Performance Monitor, and check your system that way.

Happy modding!

While your more or less correct. how ever if it is the cause then it will be no more of a problem than the vanilia game. That actually was the problem with my game, the patch, only after Artmoor suggested I download it from the AFK site did it work correctly. He said something about it might be a Nexus API problem (or something like that). with the new download installed my game runs smoothly, instead of crashing constantly, usually five seconds into a load.

while VRAM or CPU issues might be a responsible, they are not the only thing that can result in CTD's.

True, but it was the only thing I could think of. Good thing Artmoor suggested that--I sort of know what he's talking about, in concept the way I know how TVs work. lol I just never would have put two and two together.

Glad it got solved, though!

Happy modding!
