Is the Skyrim: High Resolution Texture Pack worth it?

I was wondering if getting the new texture pack is worth it? Is it better than Skyrim HD 2k texture pack, is it better than some of the HD weapon and armor retextures out?

If anyone has any before/after photos where I can see the difference, that would be great.

Thanks!

Man, despite all this time on the forums I never tried to upload images into a post before... what I can tell you for sure is for me the ESPs from the pack are kept disable until a "solution" is found...

I already renovate the fury over that "integration to Steam" thing... is just too inviting to think such thing can't be more than a "conspiracy against texture modders, and I'm serious here, no irony.

PS: The pack just makes whatever texture mod you already have go bye bye... to make things worse... if you use body and face mods... download it since already doing, but Disable the ESPs, or avoid enabling them if already disabled, you will not like the result you'll see if not doing this.

Technically asking whether something that's free is 'worth it' is a bit of a circular question but that's just me being a smartarse. :rolleyes:

I'm disabling them personally. I'm getting far too many instances of clothes/hides on the walls or floors/armour etc being a blank white/purple instead of what they're supposed to look like so in terms of that, no, they're not worth it for me. Not sure whether it's because I'm pushing the limits of my computer though as far as I can tell it falls well within the required specs.

I'll be unpacking all the official high res textures, back up the BSA's and delete the BSA's and ESP's from the data folder, followed by lots of work recreating my custom textures on the new "better" version of textures.

I've already raged for about an hour that they decided it was a good idea to use ESP's to get the textures enabled. Seriously? Who is the damn genius that came up with this bizzare idea over at Beth?

Ah, so it sounds that it may be better to wait awhile on this one. I was just hoping that many of the armors would look better.

BSA unpacking is unnecessary.

How to use the new Official Hi-Res texture pack with user created mods:

1. Disable or delete the esps that came with the official texture pack.

2. Backup then open

SteamAppsCommonSkyrimSkyrim_default.ini

&

DocumentsMy GamesSkyrimSkyrim.ini

3. Change this in both files:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

To this:

[Archive]

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

4. Save both files.

Now user created mods will be able to override what they need to override in the official texture pack.

Thank you Outlander!!

Just the proper info I've been looking for and it seems you are everywhere posting it. Just wanted to show some appreciation.

For now I have dropped all the texture mods I was running. After a few days with the new DLC textures I plan on reenabling some of the more appropriate ones and this bit of info is exactly how to do it.

Am I the only one who sees the obvious practicality of the way the HD Pack is set up? It doesn't overwrite modded files, and it's 100% modular. Doesnt clutter the data folder at all, I almost wish that would become a standard for modders, fully modular packs as opposed to just plugins and a bunch of loose files. Edited by cire992

Well written! I'm quoting this for my readme ;)
