well, i like everything BUT country.

i have not always been like this though. i used to hate rap, hip-hop, rock, reggae, and anything that wasnt metal; that was because i was an ignorant fool though :) ahh, to be 15 again!

now i appreciate all forms of musical expression (except country!) because everyone has their own way of doing it.

The question asks what genre I like but not which one I like best. I am first and for most a metal head but I grew up on classic rock. I've always been pretty open to all kinds of music but growing up the child of a battered mother I had a deep disdain for the womanizing glorified by rap. Because of that I never really cared for it, that is until Tupac. Having been shown that there are always diamonds in the ruff, I started searching all genres that I had little care for and found plenty of diamonds in everything from Jazz to Country. I always turn back to my favorites for daily medicine though and these are as follows:

70's - Bob Seger, Black Sabbath

80's - Metallica, Slayer

90's - Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Pantera, Sepultura, Biohazard

00's - Disturbed, System of a Down

Favorites are classified as such for a strong liking of all songs on at least two of their albums. Seger, Sabbath, Alice, Pearl and System are the only ones that I like every single song they ever produced and that is just for my all time favorites list. There are lots of others that I could say I like all of their music. Of all the rock bands mentioned (that I recall anyway) I would say Rage and AC/DC fall into that category.

Us rock lovers have it good though let me tell you because our genres (Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Alternative, Blues ) make up nearly half of all the music out there. Granted that is calculating all the way back to 1950 and from then to 1980 Rock and Blues held a solid 75%.

EDIT: Total votes says 14 but I count 19, wonder what's up with that?

I prefer all kinds of metal. My favourites:

- Heavy metal (Manowar, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Helloween, Teräsbetoni, Gamma Ray...)

- Viking Metal (Korpiklaani, Runic, Ensiferum, Bathory, Thyrfing, Fimbulthier, Amon Amarth, Folkearth...)

- Black Metal (Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Emperor, Noumena, Asmodeus, Immortal...)

- Others (Type 0 Negative, Moonspell, My Dying Bride...)

So, I like other bands, but I wouldn't fill all the topic!

Everything (except recent country and rap) from Classical to Techno.

Queen rocks ! Kiss sucked. Met Slash of Guns and Roses when they were just a local band in the Dallas area. (for true)

In the 60s: don't forget Cream, Guess Who, Booker T and the MGs, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night, Tommy James and the Shondels, Blood Sweat and Tears.

70s: Moody Blues.... The Doors.... Alice Cooper.... Doobie Brothers.... CCR..... Steve Miller Band....

But my favorite has always been the Motown Sound...back when black people actually sang and had soul, and they expressed themselves in song....

Ben E King and The Drifters, The Platters, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Dobie Gray, Bill Withers, Johnny Nash, Otis Redding, Temptations, etc.

Guess this shows my age.

Added in after reading freddycashmercury's post:

Marty Robbins cowboy ballards were/are fantastic.

Mmm.... The Who..... *Eyes glaze over*

I always thought of Zeppelin as more of a 70's band, myself.

And yes, I DO listen to country. Old country, not this new crap. Johnny Cash FTW!

Ya'll should seriously check out Dropkick Murphys.

The total votes say that because I made it so you can pick more than one.
