Maharg67
Why do most forum games seem to last only a short time? What do people want from a forum game? What makes a good forum game? I have tried to create a variety of forum games only to see most of them fail from the start and others go strongly for a while and then fade away. What is your thought on this matter, if any? hoofhearted4
you need a "neutral" option for the first question. i dont care about forum games, but i dont hate them either. i think out of all my posts, 15 tops are in forum games. to answer your question though, well...i cant lol. as i never pay attention to any of the forum games,
grannywils
I do like forum games and have played in some that have gone on for quite a long time (the "Count to 20" is a case in point). I believe part of the reason for the success of that one was the fact that there were teams of players. We got to know one another, and we could "spell" one another on the game. I know that I cannot always be on the Nexus, and neither can most of us. But when you play on a team, firstly you get to know each other, which is a bonus, and secondly, you know that someone is watching your back in a given game. It is not always easy to get a team together, however, so games like that cannot just be made up on the spot. I have played in some of the games that you have started, Maharg, and enjoyed them a great deal. My problem is that I am frequently away from the Nexus for days at a time, and when I get back I have sort of lost track. There are other successful games that I have not played, where it does not really matter when you are on Nexus. You can just drop in any time. I must admit to finding a couple of those a bit boring. Don't know if this was of any help or not, but I hope so.
Marxist ßastard
What makes a good forum game?I would say a sense of danger. The very best forum games present a real chance of getting banned.
zegh8578
heres a fun and (relatively) harmless forum game (i would like to be pardoned if im not the first one to suggest this) google a quoted two-word sentence, such as"yellow hatstand" untill you only get 1 result. "yellow hatstand" yielded 8 results. close, close "palatal galaxy" yielded 2 results, even closer. the point of getting 1 result, is that if so - it isnt entirely nonsensical. ONE more person thought of the sentence, before you did :] "chutney antarctic" 1 result :)
Marxist ßastard
Without the quotes, I get 2,670,000 results. With quotes is way too easy. In fact, the googlewhack rules explicitly said no quotes. Ten years ago. For reference: This is not "just" an old meme. If this meme had children, they would be old enough to call it an old meme. When this meme was created, George Bush was President. And he had an 86% approval rating.

Marxist ßastard
Yes, Google has changed a lot in the past ten years. Oddly enough, if you enable verbatim mode, you get 4,120,000 results. So the new algorithms were helping you. Oh, and...Morrowind had not yet been released....But the original X-Box had just been released.US troops would not enter Iraq for 4 more months. The Iraq War would not officially begin for 14 more months.A top-of-the-line computer had a KT266A-based mainboard with a 1.5 GHz Athlon XP, 512 MB of Hyundai PC2100 DDR SDRAM, and a GeForce 3 Ti500. It ran Windows 98, of course.I think this is actually a better game.

Marxist ßastard
so many moments of dangerously high blood pressure could have been avoidedOh yeah, it's under More search tools. Or you could "enclose" "every" "single" "word" "in" "quotes" like a bad Yelp review. serbia had a coast-linethe chinese river dolphin still existedThe first Lord of the Rings movie was still new. MEMod was getting started up. The government was just starting to look into this whole "Enron" thing. EDIT: Gas was $1.20/gallon.
