Would it be illegal to transfer all the oblivion objects/creatures for

I know there was a big fuss with morroblivion when it was generated for oblivion. If i wanted to say... feature a monster mod for skyrim using direct oblivion objects and creatures, would that technically be accepted on the nexus and steam? Or would it be considered copyright?

That wouldn't be allowed unfortunately. You can't get an Oblivion asset, tweak it and share it as part of a Skyrim mod without getting into trouble.

What you can do though, is create something from scratch that looks just like the Oblivion version. :)

thats kinda what I thought. O well looks like we'll just have to create cooler looking goblins for skyrim. Thats really what I dont like. No goblins or ogres or minitaurs!!! Giants and falmer are cool... but they arent minataurs.

But if that gets you in trouble would it technically be illegal to even show these renderings of oblivion object/creatures in skyrim via youtube video or something? like a machinima?

You are actually allowed to.....BUT!!

You can only do this for personal use ONLY. So you can't upload it here.

Why is that bad? I don't the problem?

I'm no expert on the rules for Machinima, but I *guess* it would be okay. I mean there's nothing wrong with creating a movie with footage from both Skyrim and Half-Life for example, so I don't see issues with moving meshes and textures between different games provided you're not distributing them.

I suggest you read this: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/377405-porting-content-from-other-games/

It's the Nexus' stand on this matter.

And recheck with your games. Distribution is the illegal thing, but "usage" alone already breaks the EULAs of both games.

There is no such thing as the "for personal use only"-excuse. While nobody will send a lawyer after you, if you do, it's still breaking the EULAs to do so.

And don't post images or videos showcasing your "ripped&ported" assets here, as this is not allowed by the rules I linked. Well, it says "better don't" at least.

edit: Some more official stands on this to support the point, note the quoted Bethesda officials: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?showtopic=49000&st=0

Yeah, the legal reasons are because Oblivion is an entirely different game. So basically if you take models from Oblivion and put them in Skyrim, you're porting copyrighted material, which is illegal on the sole basis that others may not necessarily own Oblivion. If I were to do it, I'd have to keep it as a personal mod and not share it with anyone in order for it to be "legal."

Although, I would LOVE to see Morrowind / Oblivion creatures in Skyrim. My biggest complaint in Skyrim is that Daedra are virtually non-existent. Atronachs and Dremora, that's it. I miss the Winged Twilights, Ogrims, Hungers, Clannfears.... and so on. Skyrim sadly has a poor creature variety, but give it time and I know someone will make some lore-friendly monsters.
