witchdoctor180
I have searched the forums and googled for an answer to this question and have come up empty, so I will pose this to the learned elite of Skyrim Nexus: Is it possible to make an NPC wear the clothing/armor in their inventory or is there no way to disable the "Default Outfit"? I'm trying to add NPCs into the game and I find the armor combinations provided boring. So my NPCs walk around naked because I set their default outfit to "NONE", and they refuse to wear the clothing/armor in their inventories. Is it possible to create new "Default Outfits" in the creation kit so I could make them for my new NPCs? Any solutions? Please don't speak of console commands, that is a cop out and doesn't answer my question. Edited February 10, 2012 by witchdoctor180
minngarm
Make a formlist and see if you can set it for their default outfit, then add all the items too the form list, adding whichever of those you want them to wear to the NPC. Havent checked into it but let me know if its possible.
solokazama
Hey! I wanted same thing, because Im doing WhiteRuin crossover fantasy friends town :) I will have there Lighting, Witcher and many more as WhiteRuin NPC. Checked on CK and: - in object list window go to Outfit- right click on outfits list and click "new", type Name (new ID will be added by CK)- add items to this outfit Then go to actors, find your NPC, use inventory TAB and switch default outfit to your new. Then export ESP file. Didnt check it in game yet! Will do in few hours, when I finish my work, but im pretty sure it will do the job. My new WhiteRuin gonna be awesome :] I know LoreBreaking, but thaths the point it will be something like outpost to skyrim when u can pickup any famous fantasy character as companion and go into the world. solokazama
Update: Ok I checked it - works like a charm. Created first NPC for my MOD - Lighting in WhiteRuin (replaced Carlotta). Created new default outfit (after this click on outfit and drag & drop armors u want to have there).
elkanbrand
Thank You for this question and the answer. For some reason this has been the most difficult thing to find an answer to. I was not expecting it to be so easy as make your own file and drag and drop the armors you want in it. Amazing how the Besthesda folks make somethings so combersome and others straightforward. If the CK was more consistent would be nice. Inventory could have been just drag and drop for each npc and then clip an icon or check box for all the equip slots. Well, perhaps someone will make a streamlined translation program for ck that is more user friendly. Next task is sorting thru all the magic AI and which spells npcs can use. Oh well, my hobgoblins and ogres will be happy with new moded weapons and armor. Thanks again guys! -Edit: However, this only works in teh CK for vanilla armor pieces. Mod armors, for me and I have several popular ones, do not work. Apparently .esm mods work for custom items and I have not seen a .esm used for armor mod. I have a couple weapon mods that work, one is .esm the other is not. Not sure what the underlying problem is or how to useany moded armor or weapon when creating an npc, and looked all over the forums and youtube, etc. Edited April 22, 2012 by elkanbrand
soule187
Well, you can easily turn your .esp file to an .esm file by downloading TESVSnip and following the instructions on this page: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Adding_a_Merchant_NPC_to_Skyrim#Fix_the_NPC_face_colour Follow the first step under "Fix the NPC face color" (Also is good info on fixing the NPC face color glitch, ha ha). After you have your .esm file, though, you cannot edit it. You can save it as a plugin, but all the .esm files you have checked in CK will be linked to that plugin and you won't be able to open it without them. So if you take MyMod.esm and save a plugin using it, then you turn MyMod.esp into MyMod.esm using the above method then CK will think it needs MyMod.esm to open MyMod.esm which will cause CK's brain to implode and it will refuse to even start. Hope this helps you. Edited April 26, 2012 by soule187
HuldrychZX
I FINALLY found a solution for this brainmauling issue... actually two, you may choose which one fits you. Option 1: For this one you'll need a mod which I think everyone who enjoys having followers should have, Amazing Followers Tweaks by Dheuster. In my opinion is by far better than most of other followers mods out there as this one allows you modify pretty much everything in a friendly way, and atleast in my experience I haven't come into any bug with it: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15524 Ok, first of all you'll need to hire (of course) the follower you want to change. Once he/she is bound to your will talk to him/her and click on "Tweak Options". Go to gear and select "Unequip All". As you follower goes naked (Don't get kinky), for some reason I can't explain he/she WON'T gear his/her default gear but will stay that way. While still naked click on "Remember this outfit" and the select "Standard". Wait for it to load and once it's done it'll say that your follower will remain forever naked. After this, if you wish, you may dismiss him/her and go hire him/her again in order to verify if it worked. Once you succesfully edited his/her default gear, which is nothing (Again... don't get kinky), trade and remove all the supposed to be defaul gear (Example: Ancient Nord for Aela) from his/her inventory. After that give him/her the gear you want him/her to wear. Once it's on click on "Remember this outfit" and select "Standard". Done with that you'll follower will wear whatever you gave him/her forever and ever, even after you dismiss them, but if you wish you can always change their new default gear. (NOTE: I'm NOT sure if you can later put their original default gear active, but doing the same procedure with what they used to wear should work just fine) UPDATE: Testing with this method I realized of something. After you determine their new default outfit by enabling the standard outfit you'll get a warning stating that you shouldn't change the load order of your mods if you give them a mod gear. Now, as this might be troublesome for some people like me who constantly deletes or add mods, the solutions is simple: After you determined their new default gear with the standard option, dismiss them, fast travel somewhere else and go back. Now disable their standard outfit, dismiss, fast travel and go back. If the Nine are on your side your follower will still be wearing the gear you gave him/her. I cannont explain why this happens, problaby the mod replaces their default outfit to the new one, but of what I'm sure is that with this method your saves won't get corrupted in case you move/add/delete something. Option 2 (POSSIBLE SPOILER): Now, if you're not the mod type or you're using another follower mod that hasn't solved this problem, this is what you should do: There's a point during the main questline where you can bring followers to Delphine to join the blades. Do this with your desired follower. After that fast travel somewhere and go back. You should see your follower with either the blades armor or with combination of their default armor and the blades armor. No worries, simply hire them, take all their outfit and give them whatever you want them to use... and that should do. In case they wear back the blades armor simply trade with them, take a piece of their gear and put it back on as their wear the gear you gave them. I hope this helps because, as you might be, I was knocking my head on the keyboard due to this awful problem.

Darkanvas
With AFT, I think you can just use "manage outfit". This will convert their 'hidden' default equipment so that it can be plucked from their inventory - at which point you can place your own equipment in there for them to wear.
