The Creation Kit WILL NOT OPEN!

Awesome, I just downloaded Creation Kit and now have this problem. I can't just go download a Free game to get the api file cause I'm unfortunatly on Dialup. Guess I'll keep google searching till I find a more realistic fix.

Edit:

And now I fixed it. Much easier to just download the dll from a dll repository like dll-files.com and just drop it into the Skyrim folder.

Necro-ing thread because relevant and first source for problem.

Mid May 2014 here, problem not resolved. Having been cautious when the Creation Kit failed to load, I took a moment to examine the situation. Installing the CK overwrites the Skyrim installation, deleting any game that had been there prior. This then renders the CK inactive.

I dont know if you all have found out already, because this post is pretty old. Here is what I did to fix it.

I have a second Hard Disk Drive for many of my games called Steamlibrary on the F: -drive. Problem is that the files steam needs to open the Creation Kit are NOT on the HDD with the extra game folder but on my main C: drive.

So I uninstalled the Creation Kit from my extra game folder on F: and reinstalled on my main drive C: and vuptivoila *drumwhirl* opened in seconds :D Hope it helps atleast some of you who might stumble upon this thread as I did :-)

Had same problem, creation kit not starting, skyrim would however.

Solution that worked for me:

cntl+alt+del go to processes close steam

Reopen steam and open creation kit

Problem was caused by steam not starting properly because of a dodgy internet connection issue I have at the moment, so this may not work for all.

But I know this is a handy trick for solveing problems with other games.

This happend ot me JUST NOW with the recent update to the CK, it breaks it sometimes. Just delete the Creation Kit from your computer via steam as normal, reinstall and then it will work. You will need to alter the SkyrimEditor.ini file to include the Update.bsa, Dawnguard.bsa, Heartfire.bsa, Dragonborn.bsa stuff - or rather, Dawn, Hearth and Dragon bsa.s after Update, and add the line bAllowMultipleMasterLoads=1 under [General], and it will work. You'll probably need to do this with Fallout 4, adding that line and its DLCs in the relevant places too once that is out.

Hope this heps.

Remember: If CK gets an update and it says in STEAM thait launches but then vanishes and nothing happens, delete and reinstall, it takes barely a few seconds with such a small program.

Sooo let me catch my shovel to unearth this topic

after the release of Skyrim Special edition some things have changed.

and for now, the only way i found to fix this error was to take a "steam-api.dll" file in an other steam game and launch the CK, and this work for me
