Do not clean ITM with SSEEdit

I had this problem on my last install, after cleaning the DLC files the game would crash to the left and right near the Dark Brotherhood lair. Pissed me off since I could literally take 5 steps outside their lair and it would crash, 10/10 times.

I've cleaned it again on my new install and I'll see if the same thing happens.

Am I correct in saying that Bethesda cleaned them in an update and then reinstated the dirty files? I'm sure they did because I remember being miffed that they cleaned the masters whenI had previously cleaned mine after it had caused all sorts of strange gremlins to appear. So I had validated the files on steam to get the dirties back, only for them to clean them. Then one day I loaded up the game and my dirty masters were back. Joy!

Sorry to necro this thread. But I cannot find a clear answer. In one camp people say clean, in another camp people say don't clean.... LOOT is listing update, dlc and numberous mods as having ITM's that should be cleaned... Should I or shouldn't I?

The update and DLC stats it has ITM's and deleted navmeshes that could be cleaned.

Other mods with ITM's that loot says should be cleaned are

Beyond Bruma

Moon and Star

ELFX

Vivid Weathers

Palaces and Castles Enhanced

Vigilant

Convenient Horses

Andromeda

Yes, you should clean everything you listed except Convenient Horses. CH has an ITM in it that xEdit will remove due to xEdit not taking texture hash changes into account for SSE. Removing that will lead to CTDs.

I am no Arthmoor, but the experience with this game I have, the thousands and thousands of hours in playtime and of editing it for YEARS on end is something not many even arth can come close to when it comes to my crack that is called Skyrim...

Oldrim users typically stick to oldrim for 1 of 2 reasons- 1. They have sex mods they can't live without. 2. They don't want/understand that SSE has all the mods theyre looking for or are too lazy to make the switch. SSE is miles above Oldrim in every possible way. Oldrim users keep doing what your doin and wash your socks you sick wierdos! This advice isn't for your twisted ears.

SSE users listen up, do not clean your master files period. If you have a mod and you see that it has ITM's while cleaning with ssedit.... turn a blind eye, ignore them because you risk causing CTD if an ITM edit was intentional... you're possibly tipping over a domino that can cause CTD later on. I don't care what LOOT or any other uninformed party might say, you are simply risking CTD's for no gain. SSE's game engine is far more stable Oldrim yeah definately follow the cleaning advice but "NEWRIM" leave em it's far safer.

Now UDR's are a different story... delete these like the plague they can bug out your game. Pretty simple really.

That's a 100% false statement.

Here I reported a similar post for using a pirate copy of Skyrim.

Uh the word, clean, itm, or dirty did not even appear anywhere in the link you posted.

Bad advice.

Even worse advice.

I don't care what LOOT or any other uninformed party might say, you are simply risking CTD's for no gain.

Then you should probably care about what informed parties like myself say, and the advice has not changed in 15 years. Clean the mods. Clean the masters. Your game will be happier for it.

If LOOT is telling you a mod has ITMs or UDRs, go with it, because that means someone took the time to check it and report it to the team for the version of the mod they looked at.

Don't just sit and wait for LOOT to hold your hand though. Check everything you put into your game. Not just for ITMs and UDRs, but for dumb stuff like lazy authors who never ported their plugins, meshes, or textures too. You need to be proactive when modding Bethesda games.
