Mods and VRAM

Is it more vram friendly to download large, multi mods such as Immersive Armors, or is it better to go through and pick out five or six standalones that best suit the game one is playing at the moment?

As you might have guessed, the answer is both (or neither.) It really depends on the mods involved and how many of them you're talking about. Using your example, Immersive armors is a very well written mod that gives you a metric butt-ton (I'm sure that's a legal measurement somewhere) of armor that you would be hard-put to get the same amount in individual mods for the same or less VRAM usage. However, other, less-optimized mods might use more memory than individual mods that did the same thing. For example, an all-in-one texture mod that addressed trees, grass, rocks, water and the sky MIGHT be more VRAM friendly than individual mods that concentrated on one each of those items. Then again, it might not.

From a plug-in limit view (especially if you don't like merging mods) big mods like the afore-mentioned Immersive Armors is definitely the way to go. As for VRAM usage, I strongly recommend reading the posted comments to get a good overview of how the mod is working for people. For example, Bethesda's own Hi-Res texture packs are garbage according to a LOT of commenters here on the Nexus. Too much memory usage compared to all-in-one texture mods from several of the more famous mod authors here.
