GrayWolf04
I was wondering of anyone could answer this question for me. I bought Skyrim through a digital download on Steam. I was wondering if there was a way to disable steam so when I clicked on the launcher for the game (the direct one, not the one with the Steam shortcut), it would just load the game without logging in to Steam and loading the programs and whatnot. I've gotten kind of tired of seeing it everytime, and it takes longer for the game to load on my computer. I tried to log out of Steam and launch the game directly from the game's directory, but that does not work. If I moved the game out of the Steam folder and into another folder in the Programs directory, would that work at all? or what if I just uninstalled Steam? This is the only game I have gotten through it, so it would not be detrimental to me in any way (I don't care about the Skyrim workshop and auto-update features). The same question goes for the Construction Set.
Peukka
There is no other way than steam, unless someone has found hack or something. We all do hate the steam thing, i would play CS:S much better without steam..
GrayWolf04
Then let there be a challenge! First person to find out how to disable Steam without resorting to illegal measures wins!
Merlindad
I would be so gratified to be able to play Skyrim without using Steam/Valve.  I am posting a link to an article that I read which is about the new patch that has been released. Here it is: http://www.tomshardw...team,14068.html I have experienced problems with being able to play the game in 'Offline Mode'. The solution involved three tasks. First I configured the TESV.exe file so that it opens under Administrator mode. Next I connected to the internet and started the game in 'Online Mode'. Then I disconnected from the internet after shutting down the game. The game starts in 'Offline Mode' now, with no problems. My game is NOT patched to the newest version and after reading the article in the link posted herein, I will not patch it. I am concerned that if I do, then I won't be able to play in 'Offline Mode', at all. I was very irate when I installed the game from the DVD and discovered that I had to create a Steam Account in order to accomplish the install! I don't believe that any PC games should be required to access some third party's website in order to play them. It seems as though the PC gaming industry is assuming that everyone who buys a game title has internet access which I believe is very unreasonable. I wonder what happened to the companies which developed the encryption codes that were used to secure past PC game titles?
gsmanners
I wonder what happened to the companies which developed the encryption codes that were used to secure past PC game titles? They became EA (and haven't really changed their attitude much). GrayWolf04
I'm going to try to uninstall it and then re-install it. Before running it, I'm going to choose not to update it. Hopefully that should work. Or, we could start an online petition to force Bethesda to release a patch/update that removes the Steam dependent feature. What about that?
GrayWolf04
Ok, I found out a temporary fix. If you got Skyrim BEFORE the Steam Dependent Update (SDU), you can retreive the TESV.exe from a system restore point. If you got Skyrim after the SDU, you are pretty much screwed unless you can find another way to disable Steam.
rabidNode
the steam integration has little to do with drm and more to do with control of mod flow and more money and profit through demographics and control after game is released.currently no way to run skyrim without hackery and other methods that will allow to play without steam.this most likely will continue indefinitely and the next tes game will be even worse I am sure.you can move it from the install folder but have to rework it so it creates a false shortcut to the game. and this method will still open steam.the truth is the monopoly tactic they have used will succeed and is brilliant if you are the share holders or steamhowever for us the consumers its really just a freed ride for steam as they now have guaranteed demographics info based on each sale of the game box. not to mention with steam workshop integration they marry steam so closely to mods some will soon come to think that the only way you can have mods is through steam. they integrated non competition right into the system and since they are fully connected to bethesda I suppose they can do as they choose.it is indeed like I said brilliant if you are on the side of marketing and sales and really disrespectful if you are the average consumer.the way they did this has me losing all respect for bethesda and this will end up being my last game from them... it was an awesome adventures from arena until now but times changed a lot.it would not surprise me if the next ck is leased through steam
argentrolf
sorry to necro a post... but rabid node called it... the creation kit for fo4 AND SSE are, afaik, steam only... and still no legal workaround.
mikeloeven
Honestly I dont like or trust any suppliers of cracks however I would not be opposed to someone posting a method to disable steamworks using say a hex editor on the game executable. I have been looking for a no steam patch for a long time and to be honest since I actually own the game through steam my reasons for doing this are purely technical such as preventing steam from hijacking NMM commands. (Dont know why but sometimes steam just feels like opening the skyrim launcher despite NMM being set to SKSE Edited February 5, 2018 by mikeloeven
