diskjock89
I have been having the same issue with fallout 4 sadly and it seemed to get better once I made a backup of the mods I use, uninstalled everything and if you're using steam verifying the game files or reinstalling the game. then reinstalling the mods. it seemed to help but there are occasions when I still CTD when 5+ npc's are in close proximity to one another. ymf331
it looks like you have a pretty good grasp on things, a few load order problems aside. the bigger issue a lot of people seem to have lies within the nature of the plugins. each change doesn't only affect one aspect of the game; a lot of vanilla game data gets loaded along with it. as we add an increasing amount of plugins to the game, we increase the chance that one is overwriting another. that's the main reason i speculate that an itm record would be a bad thing. so, carefully (and tediously) looking at the data each plugin affects is a crucial and necessary step. one that for many reasons people tend to either skip or, as a product of that, not realize how necessary it really is. granted, the problem in any case could be very specific, but there's a way to actually 'look and see' that solves the broader problem of, essentially, not finishing the process. hopefully, you've used tes5edit at some point for something. if you want to look through and find your issues, try the following: in tes5edit, load every single one of the plugins you plan on loading when you play skyrim. when that's finished, right-click in the left pane (where the list of plugins is) and select 'apply filter'. i keep everything at the default here, except for the checkboxes in the upper-left. i filter for "multiple but no conflict", "benign conflict", "conflict" and "critical conflict". keep in mind that the language here doesn't necessarily describe the likelihood of crashes. click the filter button and wait a bit more. you'll be able to browse the tree on the left and get a feel for what the issues are. for a much better description of what to do from here than i can probably offer, a simple web search for "skyrim conflict resolution" turns up a massive amount of information to sift through. Fkemman11
I have heard that dynamic timescales can cause problems in your game so I don't use it. Also Warzones never worked for me no matter what I tried. I mean it would work for awhile but eventually it would start screwing up for me! Also where are your merged and bashed patches?
JacquesStrappe88
I don't know how to use merged and bashed patches. I am thinking, however, of dropping dynamic timescales-- it has an autosave feature built in, which I need, otherwise I will lose huge amounts of time when my toon dies after an hour... that's the only reason I use Dynamic Timescale. Does anyone know of a good autosaver in and of itself?
Fkemman11
Skyrim has an autosave feature so I'm not sure what your saying. It will save every five minutes if you set it to and it will save with cell changes - every time you open a door to a house or tavern or the opening of a cave entrance. A merged patch is basically essential if you have many mods. TESVEdit is what you want for a merged patch. A bashed patch is made using WryeBashe. Things like WarZones, Immersive Creatures, and Skytest will not run together without these patches!!! both can easily be found and don't forget the individual patches you will need it addition to these. You can watch a video on how to use both with GamerPoets on youtube. Both of these patches will help merge your mods to function better together- helping to reduce or eliminate game stutters and CTDs. Also I use CrashFixes to help even more. It is a process of learning these tools and good modding practices. Using several mods that make changes to the same game files WILL conflict and cause problems. It is better to use one mod to change weapons and one mod to change NPCs. Also look for stand alone mods as these will cause very little or no conflicts. A stand alone mod adds things to the game without affecting base game files usually. Also patch the games memory with SKSE Ini. pre-downloaded if you do not use CrashFixes. The games memory is a BIG factor in causing crashes with many mods installed initially.
JacquesStrappe88
OK so I need to learn how to use TESVEdit and Wrye Bash? Are they relatively simple or is there a steep learning curve involved? Also, how do I figure out what mods I should include in these merged and bashed patches?
JacquesStrappe88
So I now have a merged and bashed patch-- yet still have numerous CTD's-- literally just minutes apart-- it seems to have something to do with memory, because it only happens when multiple things are happening-- a pack of wolves attack, my follower is defending, I go to inventory to equip an unfavorited weapon or spell and CRASH. So what should I try now? I got rid of Dynamic timescale and auto save... here are my computer specs-- maybe some memory configuration can be better? Fkemman11
Skse memory patch. Look for Skse INI download. After that I don't know except to turn mods off in groups of five until you find the problem. But do this with new game only!
