Is being a healer a viable path?

Personally, I've found healing companions during a scrap can often be impossible as there is no target lock like you have in WOW (for instance). Plus, I think leveling would be seriously stunted...if you think that xp comes from successful actions (resulting in a skill lvl gain), there are far more combat actions (melee and ranged attacks) than there would be successful support actions.

That said, I do think more npc support spells would be nice. I miss being able to customize my own spells. I made a lot of support spells for npc's in Morrowind and Oblivion. I think a hybrid healer/whatever class would be more effective overall than trying to be a straight healer, there just don't seem to be enough options to make that viable.

Skyrim made that question from that upset restoration girl from the college... valid.

Although always useful to have a few perks in restoration, developing it turns the character lacking on offense.

Edit: even because in vanilla is one the hardest skills to increase.

Hm.. Well thanks for the respond. I figured it'd be pretty cool to have some tank companion being healed by you, the cleric.

What about the other way around? Are there any healer companions?

Erandur is the best vanilla healer character.

Since your here, I'm figuring your on PC and can DL mods? Get Specialized Companions Mod, either here or on Steam Workshop. It makes companions a lot better, while adding unique perks and characteristics to each one.

Being a healer is still viable though. Focus on restoration, smithing, enchanting, alteration, alchemy, perhaps an armor instead or even illusion etc. Smithing will raise extremely fast and allow you to make some epic stuff for your companions, as well as enchanting, etc. But spamming alteration and restoration are the key to get them up high fast.

If you were to get a mod that allows you to have more than one companion, it makes it even easier.
