No mods are working

Well, I downloaded a few mods, including the Elven Weapons mod.

I extract everything the way the instructions tell me to, but no matter what I do, the textures never show up. Never. Is there some name I have to change the texture to for it to work or something? Because this is really starting to piss me off. I must be doing something wrong, but I don't even know what. I even did a search on the forums for missing textures, and the "How to install mods" pinned topic doesn't help at all, so what do I have to do to fix this? I really want to have these mods..

Oh, and for more info, the textures on the models are purple.. and I don't know how to fix this.

Purple objects are usually a missing mesh . Both textures and mesh files must be installed into special folders to work - that is where the game looks for them. The meshes are installed in the Oblivion\data\meshes subfolder, and the Textures in the Oblivion\data\textures folder.

Some unzip programs are notorious for putting them in the wrong place - Winzip does this often.

If the unzip program asks if you want to overwrite files - say yes, as those are the texture and mesh files.

A small mod may only have a few texture and mesh files - look for .nif files in your data directory and move any you find into the data\textures folder - then, move any .dds files into the data\textures folder.

A larger mod may put its Texture and mesh files into separate folders example mod xyz may have folders named xyz textures and xyz meshes. If so, move the entire xyz meshes folder into the data\texture folder and the xyz meshes into the data\meshes folder

Yeah, I installed the meshes and textures into the right places.. but it still comes up purple.

Do the textures and meshes have to have the same file name? Because alot of the time, their names are

LargeBlade.nif (Mesh)

wtf3.dds (Texture that's supposed to go with the Mesh)

I've tried naming them the same, and putting them in the same sub-folders of each the Textures and Mesh folders, but they still don't work..

If you changed names you messed things for sure, as the .nif have paths in this structure to then. Even not being in the directory they are supposed to be is sure troubles.

There are a few things you must assure when installing mods:

1 - some mods will extract the files at its own directory name, these you 'must' extract in a temp place and moving its contents as files and folders to the proper places. As example a folder there named Data is supposed to overwrite the Data folder in the installation (actually this will just append files and folders to the original Data folder). the same goes to textures that will overwrite the textures one inside the original Data

2 - The mod will show just one folder named Data and maybe some more files... you are supposed to extract then to your /Oblivion folder, accepting overwrite whatever is asked.

3 - The mod will bring several folders, like Textures. Meshes, sounds... some files as ESPs and readmes etc... these are supposed to be extracted to the /Oblivion/Data ...

Most of times these are the only things to be made, unless the mod specifies different... and are very few that to so.

And activating eventual ESPs and/or ESMs, of course, not just putting then in the Data folder, but 'actively' marking then as active (if you don't know what I mean so this must be the problem and you must ask someone to explain how to do this)

Don't change any of the file names or file paths. Chances are your mods were all precisely packed. The only files you need are the .esp and files\folders contained in 'meshes' and 'textures'. The .esp files belong in your Data folder but all tex & mesh files including names must follow the paths indicated by the .esp.

I was going to look at the elven weapons file and see if I could find something to help, but I found 5 different mods named Elvin weapons. Which one are you using.

Are you using Vista?

I have written a series of short tutorials for people who have never downloaded a mod. Click on the highlighted text to go to the start.
