Accidentally deleted landscapeLOD\generated files

Recommended Posts

A really really simple ask and solution ( I think) : Could someone send me a backup of the original game files (edit: ONLY the files listed in "texture/landscapeLOD/generated ")

I don't need the files/folders 'farfar' 'farnear' or 'farinf'. Just the rest of the files in the generated folder.

They're about 430 mb or so I believe.

---------

The reason I'm asking for a backup here is because shitty ass f***ing retarded steam doesn't ever give you the install files, so a reinstallation means I have to download all the f***ing files all over again. Which can take up to 5 hours or so on my connection and steams downloading servers.

As well, the verify integrity of game files does absolutely f*** all and does not restore the files.

It all happened because of the stupid f***ing distant LOD mod requires you to overwrite files, and since all the files are f***ing numbers, its a ridiculous procedure to find out exactly which files need to be backed up.

So i copied all the orginal files to a new folder, extracted the downloaded files as copies into that folder, and then it auto selects the original files, which I then copied to a new folder. Viola, i have backups of the specific 11 or so files I need. So I just deleted all the other files, but ended up deleting the files in the original game folder, and the new one I had created (I must have been distracted or confused, but yeah, screwed up)

---------

help would be appreciated, thanks.

ps; I loaded up a game and everything *seems* fine but I'm worried about random crashes. Are these files even nessesary? Are they 'generated?' I'm really not that educated on this sort of stuff.

Not sure if you're making a joke; clearly I've already bought the game. (i'm using a steam version as I mentioned before). Perhaps you didnt read or misunderstood what I'm asking.

Again, if there's anyone who would like to help me, (whether its answering simple questions or otherwise) I'd much appreciate it.

I mean, you're being absolutely ridiculous. I'm asking for about 15 or so specific files (that I've already paid for and I'm assuming others here have as well) to share those specific files, privately. These are not files being shared with the general public and they're neither theft not profitable for me or anyone else, or, unprofitable for any software owner or licensee with which there is 'profit' to be made. The files on their own can't be used to play the game. Once again, I'm not sure if you've completely read / understand the posts I've written.

There's simply no argument to be made that this request even remotely resembles any form of piracy.

Please, I'm not here to make some sort of legal argument regardless if there is one to be made. This thread doesn't need to be any larger than it deserves, and if you have nothing to add, please refrain from responding.

If admins would like to close the thread, then they can. Otherwise its a harmless request, and again, anyone wanting to help out can. Thanks again.

Still piracy and against the ToS Beth has in place. A profit gained is not required to have something be labeled as piracy. I know exactly what you mean and it is piracy.

Also, if I remember correctly, the normal landscape LOD files are stored inside one of the BSA archives, so even if you did verify game cache through Steam, it might not necessarily redownload any loose files, if/when the files already are inside one of the BSA archives, and you have the BSA archive that contains them. Almost all of the base game files are packed in the handful of BSA archives that are in the Data folder when you first download the game. There are some exceptions, like the music in the game, though.

Any distant (LOD) landscape meshes and textures generated through external tools like tes4ll or Oscape will end up being loose files inside your Data folder (unless you are running the tools in a way that results in the files being stored elsewhere). Those generated files are generally not needed, as in, the game works fine without them (because there already are the corresponding vanilla files available in a BSA archive), however they can be generated (based on your current mod setup and load order) for visual/aesthetic reasons. For example if you find the vanilla distant derrain lacking in detail, or if you have a mod that makes drastic changes to terrain and want the changes visible from a distance. Any generated landscape LOD files specific to your mod setup will need to be generated by you for your own specific mod setup. Terrain meshes/textures are also separate from object LOD. If you want also object LOD, for example if using a mod like RAEVWD, you need to use TES4LODGen to generate those (again, based on your current mod setup and load order).

That is, if I remember it correctly. Apparently making mistakes is normal, but the amount of mistakes I make seems to be crossing the border to the domain of absolute incomprehensibility. :P Which means anyone is feel to jump in when they spot something odd.

Appreciate the responses.

The short answer to my questions seem to be that I actually do not need those files. However, there were at least 22, maybe 30 of those 'gps co-ordinates' files. I would still greatly appreciate it if someone could send me those vanilla files, I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and well, I guess if I don't get a response in the next day or so I'll just have to comepletely redownload oblivion (or perhaps i'll just grab a pirated version online - a lot easier than going through steam.)

I also was wondering about the LOD generator. I'm wondering too, if - the mods I've installed came with LOD files - and perhaps I may have deleted those?

I think I will reinstall some of my texture mods - grass overhaul, natural environments (oh wait, i did reinstall that) and maybe qarls texture mod. (I only have about 6 mods, just to make the game look a bit better, the basics, you know)

Do you or anyone else know if these mods install LOD/generated files? (grass overhaul, natural environments qarls texture mod.)

I do remember some 'popups' with the trees - going from certain trees to somewhat totally different trees (different size, colors). Is it possible this could be related to my issue? Or is this just an issue of me perhaps needing that LOD generator tool.

Thanks again

As far I know, there're no loose files under 'textures\landascapeLOD' in vanilla game(they're all tucked into BSA files neatly). I made a backup of \data soon after I installed the game, so I can check.
