KottonKing
:wallbash: I recently backed up my files on my PC and reset my PC back to manufactures settings. Afterwards I reinstalled my back up items and tried to reinstall my Nvidia GeForce 9 series GPU but the driver install failed because it said my PC was unable to detect my GPU. So I'm stuck using this crappy integrated ATI 4200. I've tried EVERYTHING to get my Nvidia to work. Including removing my CMOS battery for 10 minutes hoping it would reset my MOBO/bio chip however that didn't work either... I've tried disabling my integrated GPU and then manually searching for my Nvidia thru my device manager and still no success... I have also tried removing the Nvidia and restarting, before and after removing the CMOS battery for 10 minutes. I hope my GPU isn't fried.. It shouldn't be it's only 2 years old and has worked great until after I reset my PC. Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for you time! SYS SPECS:Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.110622-1503) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard System Model: p6654y BIOS: BIOS Date: 07/21/10 09:12:50 Ver: 6.02 Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630 Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.8GHz Memory: 4096MB RAMAvailable OS Memory: 3840MB RAM Page File: 2045MB used, 5630MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode INTEGRATED GPU:Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4200 Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc. Illiad86
If you have another system, I would test the card in that just to make sure it's not fried. Normally when the Device Manager doesn't even pick it up as a "Display Adapter", something is wrong with the card. It could also be possible that the actual PCI-E slot fried out. I've seen PCI slots die out on pre-built systems before. They normally use low quality motherboards and the slots are the first to go. Other than that, you've done everything most people would have done. You could call HP's tech support, but I doubt they will give you any solutions other than what you have done. blove
Have you changed your BIOS setting from onboard to PCIE? Adding or Replacing an Expansion Card (Video Card, Sound Card, etc...) (Step 3) Just a note, the 9800GT lists a 400W power supply requirement and the HP p6654y has only a 250W.

If the PCI slot was fried would the fan on my GPU work??? Not entirely sure. Most of the pre-builts I worked with that had blown slots had graphics cards that had no fan (low end cards, silent heatsink). I'd guess your card uses power from the PSU, so the fan could still work. First thing though, if you have another system or maybe a friend has one, test your card in it. Good to rule out the first culprit. Computers can be such a pain sometimes haha. blove: He/she did that already, turned off integrated in BIOS. The power requirement is calculated based on an entire system. The card itself uses about 108W on max load. CPU uses 90W. Still plenty of power. My friend had an 8800GT (which is the same as the 9800GT except it uses MORE power) on a 350W Dell PSU with a 90W AMD Windsor dual core. Plus OP said it was fine until he/she reformatted. I didn't change my BIOs but I did reset the MOBO/BIOs by removing my CMOS battery for about 10-15 minutes. However, that didn't help...

When I open my device manager, and go to display adapter, all that shows up is my on board GPU... I've even tried manually scanning for new hardware, and nothing shows up but my OBGPU. SluggoV2
Have you downloaded and installed your drivers? I had a similar issue with a ATI card because I forgot to reinstall the drivers. just a thought.
