Could The Empire Survive Another War with the Thalmor?

It seems to me that even with a victory by the Empire in Skyrim, they would be weakened enough that they would have trouble defending against any Thalmor aggression. Are they only staving off the inevitable? Is it likely that the next Elder Scrolls will have the Thalmor as the sole ruling empire for Tamriel?

If Elderscrolls Legends is to be believed the reason why the thalmor one isn't pure strength but because they could see enemy movements with the orb of Vaermina. We know that the thalmor were damaged enough for hammerfell to meet them at a stand still. So it's not futile for the empire to win the second great war.

Doubtful. The Thalmor took a serious beating which is why they are playing the pupet master games. They cant fight the Empire on a level battlefield again so they are stiring up trouble to prevent the Empire from rebuilding its forces so as to allow the Thalmor better growth.

If anything the next one will be the next war between the two.

Maybe. The Empire would have to use desperate measures, such as recruiting as many as possible. Farmers, Blacksmiths, Fathers, Mothers, Daughters, Pot makers, what have you. As many as possible in order to appear strong and have a force large enough to stand up to them. I don't imagine recruitment would be difficult, since the Thalmor hasn't exactly been very nice in the provinces during the time of the White-Gold Concordat.

Furthermore, it would be beneficial if they could somehow establish communication with the Dunmer, as they would be very helpful in the fight against the Thalmor. This would be difficult though, since the Dunmer and the houses of Morrowind thoroughly dislike the Empire because of the events during the Oblivion Crisis.

I certainly believe they stand a chance, but whatever the outcome, the losses on both sides would be astronomical, even more so than the last war.

Wouldn't the Thalmor be able to force conscription in the provinces they control? Bosmer and Khajiit would bolster their ranks significantly. Not sure about the Argonians. The Empire only has whatever Nords will join in addition to what? Also wasn't one of the conditions of the White-Gold concordant was to prevent Cyrodiil from raising another huge army? I mean you see the Thalmor everywhere. They clearly got the better end of the treaty. Its to bad the Dovahkiin didn't appear 20-30 yrs earlier while the Blades were still a force.

The empire would probably get the same people from the first war. Highrock and cyrodil are still the empire, no matter which way skyrim goes it will fight the thalmor, and hammerfell isn't exactly best friends with the thalmor. You are kinda asking two questions at once here. The treaty does favor the thalmor but to what degree we don't know. It help seperate the provinces but they still all hate the thalmor. You see the thalmor every were in small groups because they are hunting talos worshipers but full armies cannot enter.

Well I bring this up in anticipation of visiting the Imperial City whenever the Cyrodiil dev team gets it done. What will be the state of the city itself? How much influence do the Thalmor have there I wonder? I could envision hunting down Thalmor spies as a very fulfilling main quest or even a radiant one. Snooty high elves! It would be great to get a better idea of the treaty from those in charge in the IC. If the Thalmor are looking to attack, then perhaps the Empire is as well after things are settled in Sky. Also let's not forget that with a new Dragonborn comes the question of traditional right to rule. Will the dev team create a path for something like this to happen? With this in mind wouldn't the Thalmor view the DB as a major threat? Assassins would constantly be trying to kill the Dovahkiin. I am very curious what they have planned. It would be fantastic if they developed Cyrodiil with the undertone of another major war brewing!!

The next battle with the Thalmor against the Empire will be the defining moment for both factions, it will be make or break, unless this Cold War continues on indefinitely, or gets defused some way.

Personally, I'm guessing the Empire wins...or the whole thing gets defused in some way and the status quo remains largely the same.

Unless Beth wants to really surprise us and makes us bow to our new Elven Masters.

There won't be, because the "Empire" is already a puppet of the Thalmor. Otherwise the legion would protect Hamerfall from it. If the Legion wins, then the Thalmor get a second chance to regroup, and prepare to invade Hamerfall again with the Legion's help this time. If Stormcloaks wins, and Ulfric decide, then combined with Hamerfall's forces they can kick out the Thalmor back to the Summerset Isles. Valenwood WILL rebel as soon as possible against the Dominion.
