Dimensionist
Right, I've recently installed Fallout 3 GOTY. However, whenever I try to start a new game, it always crashes to desktop. I looked for a fix here, and since my laptop was Quad Core, I applied the relevant fix. Didn't work. Some people mentioned that it might be a video card problem, and my laptop only has an Intel® HD Graphics Family video card (if that is, in fact, it's video card). Approx. Total Memory is about 1696 MB. Is it really that vital to have a different video card? Can the game not run with the one I have? OS: Windows 7 (64-bit) Home Premium (6.1, Build 7601) System Model: HP Pavilion Notebook PC (g6) Processor: Intel® Core i5-2430M CPU @ 2.40 GHz (4 CPUs) Memory: 4096 MB RAM DirectX Version: DirectX 11 Can anyone help me out? Any further information will be provided as necessary.
Werne
Integrated graphics card, that's the problem. You need to have a separate graphics card otherwise FO3 can't start (even if it does start it will make problems and crash often).
Dimensionist
So ... nothing else can be done? The game simply won't run? Does this problem also apply for Fallout:New Vegas, or can I at least play that?
Werne
Does this problem also apply for Fallout:New Vegas? Yup, you can't play that either.
Dimensionist
Does it apply to Oblivion/Skyrim?

Dimensionist
The specs are posted in the OP. I think it does, anyway.
BlackRampage
Think logically. You cannot play Fo3 nor FONV because your computer doesn't meet the minimum requirements.Do you really think you'd be able to play Skyrim? (which is a much newer game)
Werne
Processor, RAM, etc. pass the minimal requirements, the problem is that those games can't work on an integrated graphics card (maybe Oblivion can, I've seen laptops with an integrated card running it, though it doesn't work for some). Fonger
I know a desktop with win7 and integrated intel hd graphics that actually plays FONV but back to the question at hand the OP already admitted that his machine doesn't meet minimum requirements for FO3 -- and "nothing else can be done? The game simply won't run" but he still believes it meets the minimum requirements for FO3 time for a reality check
