itsalive427
Well, like anyone else suffering from this infamous intro to fallout 3, i'm lost. I have a windows 7 laptop with an intel(h)HD family graphics card and an amazing processor. i've looked up many tutorials and looked up for various "remedies" but i can nver really find the answer that works for me. The main issue is of course the far too common message that "fallout 3 has stopped working" after clicking start new game. i realize that unlike xbox 360's or ps3's, each PC is differen and therefore i decided to post this in order to find a more personalized assistance method. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated (please take this seriously =P) Edited February 27, 2012 by itsalive427

BlackRampage
which method would that be? i've tried most of them but it's possible i could have missed one. what would it be?This method: Okay, yeah - the d3d9.dll file addition method worked. Perfectly, at that - I've been playing for some time, and I've yet to see any problems. Given how the file was linked by a member of this site in a thread in this sub forum itself (the title was something like 'Brand new game install', and the link was provided by eric31415), and that the general problems really don't apply (namely, it's not a virus, it's not a bandage for a larger problem, it's not from a dll download site, and it's MEANT to be outdated), I feel comfortable linking it here as a possible solution to the problem. NOTE** This does NOT mean that I consider this perfectly safe, nor am I guaranteeing it's authenticity. I'm simply saying that this COULD work, and if you're frustrated enough (or desperate enough), you might as well try it out. You do so at your own risk, however - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. Here: d3d9.dllEdit: Put it into your main Fallout 3 directory. Edited February 27, 2012 by BlackRampage
Dimensionist
Oh, also, you still have to edit the .ini file if you're using a quadcore (or higher) processing system. Otherwise the game will continuously freeze and crash somewhere around the prologue. EDIT: I should point out that after testing the game for quite some time, I can tentatively declare this file download safe. Don't worry about it messing up your system. BlackRampage
Replace? That means you've already got a d3d9.dll file in your main Fallout 3 folder. It shouldn't be there by default. But anyways, the main Fallout 3 installation directory is where you put it.For example: If you've installed Fallout 3 in: "C:\games\Bethesda\Fallout 3\" then that's where you also place the .dll file.
