macmert
Hey to you all, I have a little problem with oblivion lately... I have the official expansions added with gazillions of mods, from TOTF to Thievery in the imperial city, but I dont use OBSE, but I have a lot of mods installed, I also use OBMM too... The game was working fine with heavy modding but recently the game crashes when I quickload, it is a C++ error and I need to run the game again, when I load from my last save, it works fine, but on the second quickload or so the game again crashes, also with my assassin character, it takes like 3 4 seconds to open a chest or search a dead body, a newly made character does not wait that long to open up the chests or search the bodies, also when I quit, the game crashes and stops responding... Ah and also sometimes when I run the game and the buttons does not work on the first screen like I cant start a new game or load or something... Phew it is a lot I know but I am open to any suggestions, it is not really a vital crash to stop me from playing but it was working fine till now, so I want to solve this rather than uninstalling and installing, cause it will take a lot of time :D And I need to add I am suspecting a trojan in my PC, so that might also be the reason... My system is: 2 GB RamIntel Dual Core E6750 Nvidia 8800 GTS OC edition 320 MBMSI motherboardWin xp with sp 1 Thanks for your patience :D

Second the problem sounds like a mod conflict. you need to generate a list. Third, and most importantly, there is no reason you shouldn't have OBSE. although i see you are suspecting a trojan. if ever you do fix it quick, scan it quick or you will have to re-boot your computer. List your mods and i or someone else will help you find the conflict. ( list them according to your load order.)

My system is: 2 GB RamIntel Dual Core E6750 Nvidia 8800 GTS OC edition 320 MBMSI motherboardWin xp with sp 1 Thanks for your patience :DOblivion is known as bad with memory management, it often crashes even when quiting and almost infallibly crashes when loading, while playing, a game saved at another cell. This is yet worse with the quickload. Not much I can say here unless avoid doing this, quitting and restarting from a fresh load is the way to go (boring but...) You can try utilities or/and mods that ring quicksaves, while your machine is very good to play everything in the market today no one is good enough to do this so well, not even crossfire or SLI is too much to these hungry monsters of graphics resources munchers. So I advise you here using "Streamline" (being highly configurable you can tame it to being less active at downing your settings) and enjoying its capacity to save at several 'slots' and you have different points to return if things goes bad. About OBSE it is not even only a question of choice, if you don't use mods that need it you don't need it at all, if you use mods that use its functionality to enhances itself you can choose using it, if you use mods that need it you can't even play without it, at least without weirdness and/or crashes, simple as this. About the seek time is not surprising too that the bigger the containers get, the most the searching, sorting and such functions will take to perform, and this is actually at order of several seconds or even minutes in some cases (as alchemy ingredient sorting and moving ones). Be aware that is not only the container you are activating the guilt, most of times is your inventory too if not all containers at the cell that plays a role (since there are mods that places containers at the player inventory this is yet more the case). Edit: Yet about this seek time, OBSE have functions to manage containers that quickens things at such extent that I have the creeps just to imagine trying this with the poor vanilla scripting capacities. Remember that no machine is smarter than its owner, if he doesn't help it the worse to both.
bben46
The more stuff you have, either on your character or in the chest, the longer it will take to load. with just 20 or so objects the delay is not noticeable, However when you get up to a hundred items it will be noticeable. This can get especially bad if you use a bag of holding or purse of wonder. The more stuff the longer the delay. Sell some stuff or place less in each chest. Look at it this way, the more 'stuff' you have in your back pack, the longer it tales to find what you are looking for.
macmert
Thank you guys, I guess the delay on opening chests and stuff is really related with my inventory cause I have like 300 ingredients and 200 potions or such :whistling: And not to mention the dozens of different enchanted arrows numerous staves  I dont have much magicka... I am not using OBSE cause I use a No cd crack so OBSE doesnt work with that, I installed once and couldnt understand the effect I guess you need to write some commands on the console activate numerous OBSE effects, I looked at the forum and looked at the readme of both the OBSE mods(like deadly reflexes) and OBSE itself and couldnt quite figure it out how it is done so I gave up in the end :D For the crashing issues I am afraid a trojan some malware and quite a bit of virus is active and eating at my system :D That might be the very case cause I am using tons of mods but the system was stable until two days ago... I try to choose the most bugless and least conflicting mods, and no OBSE mods... Cause I try to run oblivion with no mods, I reset the mods and only use default mod (Which is the root Oblivion.esp) and still crashes when I try to quickload... I dont know I didnt try it on a fresh character so I cant point my finger and say my Assassin is Guilty :D
bben46
The crack sites are notorious for sneaking in viruses and worms as well as corrupted versions. Don't be so cheap. Buy the game.
macmert
well I know but sorry I cant afford it just yet :D BTW I did a little disk cleaning, it seems I had 3 GB of Temp files needed to be erased :D now at least the crashes on quickloading stopped, and I will post a list of my mods I am using, now the random crashes to desktop appeared :D Gets more and more interesting :D

Update to SP2 or SP3. Reinstall, run a virus and spyware check. Patch the game to either 1.1 or the final 1.2 depending on preference. Don't use a no-CD crack. Short of doing that, nobody will be able to help you. SP2 will make your windows environment more stable, and able to utilize abilities of multi-core processors and have better memory management. Removing the game, and reinstalling will put you back on a clean slate so that you can test the game without any mods or game changes affecting you. Running a virus and spyware check will ensure that there was nothing hiding in your system, or within the install of your suspected illegal copy of the game (as well as any crack). After playing with that for awhile, you could probably add some small mods, just make sure none of them contain complex scripting, come from reputable modders (read reviews), and have absolutely nothing to do with eachother. And be glad that we aren't Bethsoft, they have been known for banning from forums, and refusing all assistance at the mere mention of a no-CD crack or drive emulation. There are legal reasons for both, but should be avoided when you start running into problems,
macmert
Well thank you for all your help, after I cleaned my Temp folders the game does not crash or give C++ errors anymore other than that only the game stops responding after I quit the game... I asked around for this problems cause I wanted to solve this problem without formatting and such :D Thank you for all your help guys...
Jesse_Dylan
I'm using a no DVD crack as well, although I did purchase and own the game. I'm not having any of the above problems, though; it seems this fellow has bigger problems than just a crack on his PC. :S Woof. (Okay, so I do have some problems with loading when I'm in another cell, and I can't seem to "quit" the game without it crashing, but that seems to be due to a mod or two. I don't think it has anything to do with the crack.) I dunno, I was just curious why people hate the no DVD cracks so much. I think it's super handy not to have to stick the DVD in to play. Congrats to the OP. Glad your computer isn't falling apart anymore! Don't let it get so bad! And go buy the game. Piracy is crap, dude. It makes prices higher for the rest of us, so in actuality, we're footing the bill for the copy of the game you stole.
